From ancient monasteries to homes on islands, and much more! Join me as I show you some of the most remote homes in the world!

10. Taktsang Palphug Monastery
Known as the "Tiger's Nest", this may look like a sculpture that is carved into a massively tall rock formation, but in fact, it is indeed a home. Specifically, a monastery for the Buddhist faith. If you're curious, this one can be found in Paro valley, Bhutan.

9. Kolmanskop
The term Ghost Town is a reference to a place that was once very booming and populated, and then over the course of a number of years gets deserted by its populace. That is what happened to Kolmanskop in Namibia.

8. Bishop Rock
If you wished to look for the smallest island in the world today that had a building on it, you would need to look no further than Bishop Rock. This island is a part of the Isles of Scilly, which is an archipelago that is 28 miles off the coast of Cornwall, Great Britain.

7. Edinburgh of the Seven Seas, Tristan Da Cunha, Tristan Da Cunha
Sometimes it's not just a singular home that is isolated from the world, rather, a whole town can be isolated, such is the case with Edinburgh of the Seven Seas, Tristan Da Cunha. This particular town is over 1200 miles away from any other settlement, making it known as one of the most isolated places on Earth.

6. Long Studio
In Fogo Island, Canada, just off of Newfoundland, there is a very long home known as Long Studio. The people of the area are very independent, and want to contribute to the world in their own way. To that end, they made the Long Studio to both be a symbol for the seasons of the world, and also be a conduit for those who want to do art themselves.

5. Villa Las Estrellas, Antarctica
There are but two settlements on the entire continent of Antarctica, and one of them is the very secluded Villa Las Estrellas. This very small town, which at max houses about 150 people, was built on the coast of an island right next to the continent. To be clear, this island is "owned" by the nation of Chile.

4. La Rinconada, Peru
The country of Peru is home to the Andes mountains, and within the Andes is a settlement known as La Rinconada. This town sits 17,000 feet above sea level, this in turn makes it the highest human settlement on Earth right now.

3. Casa do Penedo
Casa do Penedo literally translates to "House of Stone", and this accurate title suits the home found in the Fafe Mountain of Portugal. This particular house was carved out of four giant boulders, all four of which can still be seen today if you choose to go and visit this house for yourself.

2. Cliff House
Inspired by the way barnacles can grow on the outside hull of a boat, someone decided to make a house that was built as an extension of a cliff in Australia. This is known as the Cliff House. True to its word, it really is built into the side of a cliff on the coastline of the continent, and it's done so in a way that the house (which is six stories in size) actually doesn't block the views from someone who wants to see how the landscape is from the top of the cliff.

1. Coober Pedy
Coober Pedy in Australia seems like any other town in the world in certain aspects. It just so happens, that this town is right next to the biggest Opal mine in the world. Which would be fine for the townsfolk if their location wasn’t in a place that has no shade or barricade from the sun, which can literally roast the surface where the people live.
