The Internal Combustion Engine - stop motion animations and the PV cycle (Otto cycle)

Stop motion animations to show how a petrol engine operates.

The Pressure-Volume loop for an idealised petrol engine or "Otto" cycle, with the four stages explained in detail with reference to the gases in the cylinder.

My A-level physics students and I made these animations in a recent class studying the thermodynamics option for AQA A-level physics (spec A) option C (Applied Physics).

Hey Ben, really nice explenation! But the phases of the diagram and the pictures in the animation don't seem to correspont to each other. Correct me if I'm wrong but for instance; at 05:13 the dots should be blue because those are the products of the combustion. Normally I'm not so picky about details but you seem to put allot of afford in your video's, but keep up the great work! It's appreciated!

In above cycle,
once when piston move up and then down, exhaust valve does not open before sparking but open at next time for exhausting the burnt gases, how?
