TSA Officer here. WE DO NOT care about what you carry your stuff in, so long as there’s nothing dangerous. 😃 Only the airlines themselves care. This hack is genius!

the point is that the pillow doesn't count as a carry on bag, and you don't get charged for them. so as long as you don't put anything in that will get it flagged, it's a great way to bring extra carry on

I did this when I traveled to Portugal (Feb 2024) and it worked It was a perfect head rest and was able to fit A LOT of my light weight clothes.

Professional pillow tester here (?, I see no problem, it's practical, double use, and seems soft! Just use some alcohol to disinfect after putting on the tray, and before it touches your face!!!

I flew on Southwest a few weeks ago. During the pre flight announcements they informed us a pillow is now considered a personal item. You could have a backpack and a carry-on bag. If you also had a pillow, they were making people put them in their carryon bags. It was so dumb.

Certified X-Ray technician here. As far as I can see, there's only clothing in the pillow. There's literally zero threats in the stuff she pulled out, I would've moved those liquids to a separate tray, rescanned both trays and given it a pass.

Like, nobody is gonna hijack a plane with a bra thats hidden in your pillow.

On American Airlines and Southwest Airlines recently, they have copped onto this. If you have a pillow stuffed with clothes or even just a pillow pillow, it is considered your second carry-on. So if you have a handbag or a backpack along with a carry-on suitcase and a pillow. You gotta give one of them up.

Not only do you get extra room for your stuff but it will still work as a pillow. I would just be care about which airline this is on. They also may randomly check you as they do that sometimes and look inside the pillowcase.

I once brought an extra backpack through security but hadn’t paid for it on my airline. So once I was through security I put the backpack on and an over sized hoodie on over myself until I got into my seat. I was so proud. Saved like $50.

Take a back pack its still a carry on. If you can't fit everything vacuum seal your clothes. My mom started doing that when the airlines lost our luggage and we didn't get our stuff until departure day

Doesn’t hold as much as the pillow but I’ve started using a neck pillow to put extra clothes. I have a neck pillow with a zip off washable cover so I just take the cover off and fill it with clothes. Then I can wear it as a neck pillow but get the storage for clothes. Plus when your on the plane you just wear it so you don’t have to worry about airline staff asking you to put it away or anything
