Seriously, the silt / mud as a filter is NOT the way to go. There are a lot of videos available on how to make a natural filter using various materials. The object isn't just to get something to drink -- it's to get something to drink WITHOUT getting seriously sick, or even possibly dying from doing so. Also, no matter WHAT natural filter method you do, boil that water before using to drink or in cooking.
Next, be careful with rocks taken from a water source. If you put them in a fire you risk any moisture in them turning to steam and exploding.
Otherwise, I actually did learn a couple of new tricks....
