Ha ha! My Filipina wife scolded me for throwing away a toothpaste tube which I thought was empty. She used scissors for cutting it open to get more paste!

I've been to the Philippines 4 times...when visiting my wife's family, I always hugged her grandmother. I had to stand on my knees to hug her, and I think she got a kick out of me getting on my knees to hug her, but I think she really liked it because she would hug me back and hang on for an extra second or two. She passed away 3 years ago and I miss her alot. She was a tough lady that smoked her cigarettes with the lit end in her mouth.and would knock em back with the best of them.

Surprisingly, I had little trouble finding people to fix things in the Philippines. I did a few projects there in the past. There is actually a lot of skilled labor available very inexpensively in the Manila area. Welders, plumbers, and such were not nearly so costly as in the U.S.

I really enjoyed my time in the Philippines. Very friendly and tolerant people and great food. But at the end of the day I was back on base and back into the lifestyle I was use to. It almost reminds me of living where I do now. My neighbors are Amish but I can go back to my house and I’m back in my spoiled western lifestyle. 😁👍

Since Philippines has been closed to tourists for so long now, I’ve forgotten many small things about life there. Things that I “miss”…I think 🤔 or maybe not.

Queen Filipina Pea: Bravo, Bravo on this enlightening subject of culture in the Philippines. Some things I am accustomed to like elder respect, no public hugging and kissing. Also, not trying to be loud and obnoxious in public. I really love the cultural values of the Philippines which are very understandable. I believe it could be adopted in America and other western countries too. You are a great seminar instructor, leader of thought and example of what people in the Philippines represent positively. I thank you for that. Love the two (2) skits too. Now, time for sharing is caring. Many blessings in the Philippines.

A year or so ago I was researching moving to SE Asia. I brought the subject up when dating here in the US. WOW that triggered women. Instantly racist and misogynistic against SE Asian women. Can't see too many western women moving to SE Asia. I did find one already living in the Philippines. She was looking to move back to the US...and was bi.

So much is different both in good ways and bad, driving or riding on Philippine streets is a nightmare the first time but you soon get use to the daily scares, it is an experience to live in the PH, and the Filipino people, are some of the very best you will ever meet, take care Pea and keep them coming, Salamat

i am not an experienced driver, i ride a motorbike in London. Driving a car at Manila was a lifetime experience.
1. traffic is slow. not just because of the rules (20km/h in city, 40 outside) but you cant really accelerate before a damn tricycle or a jeepie comes before you
2 even on a double carriageway with concrete walls at every street the wall is open and you can turn back or cross to the small street opposite.
3. you may think that creates a huge pile-up but the traffic is highly cooperative and everyone gives way if you want to turn. so the traffic goes slow but continuous.
4 every crossing has a traffic warden or more. they help to keep order and look over the mischievous. there is an intersection at Dasmarinas which is on high ground leaving one side stopping on the steep slope at red light. as i am not an experienced driver, it is a real challenge for me. i killed the engine some 4 times with handbrake start. so the warden seeing me fumble runs over to the car and holds it and pushes so i can drive away.
5 no pedestrian sidewalk anywhere. so the street has a diffuse undefined edge
6 random potholes and obstacles pop up anywhere without much caveat. driving at nighttime you really need a sharp eye

despite all these i drove without a scratch and trouble for 10 days

After living 12 years in the Philippines, the biggest thing I have noticed, the laws and ediquette is the same as in most other countries, but people dont really care about them, the laws are not policed all that much so people just do their own thing and it works because the Filipino culture is very strong on respect and saving face, so having those two things in society it means no one is going to do anything too outrageous, the Filipino way is to do the right thing unless you have been disrespected. Foreigners think all Filipinos want to rip them off and take your money, but this is not true, its just they look at us as rich and 90% of the time we are, so they just feel we can afford to pay more and we can, most of the time. Its very practicle thinking and its the thinking that doesnt exist in western society, everyone is spoiled, they have too much and expect a lot and want more, Filipino logic is simple and structured, I love this way of thinking and to be homest if not for the corruption, then the Philippines would be a rich country, but I guess in my eyes it is a rich country and if wealth is measured by integrity and strength, then the Philippines is the richest country in the world.
