Well, think about it a little more, as the atheist is coming to terms with no longer being religious and they are starting to tell people, in many cases their parents disown them, their social group is thrown into disarray and they lose many friends, if they were the wrong country they are having death threats etc.

Wonder if any of those things might have anything to do with being angry.

This is so true. I can feel this whenever my history teacher starts the lecture she always begins with Avatars, gods, and glorification of Bjp/RSS. And trust me I know more than her in fact many of my classmates come to me and ask me to explain the topic.
