What does it mean to have an ‘afterlife’? Are there different kinds of afterlives? What would it feel like to be in an afterlife? If one samples the various afterlives on offer from the world’s multitudinous religions, one would be forgiven for being confused. Here’s the core question: If there is a an afterlife, do individual personalities persist?

Richard Swinburne is a Fellow of the British Academy. He was Nolloth Professor of the Philosophy of the Christian Religion at the University of Oxford from 1985 to 2002 and is currently Emeritus Nolloth Professor of the Philosophy of the Christian Religion.

Believe in it or not, Swinburne is a rigorous philosopher who puts forward coherent arguments.

What is so great about being alive the way people are with each other and you can get sick and tired of being alive that with death you do not have to put up with anything and anyone and you never have to think and feel any thing and you will never know anything complete freedom you are going back were you were before you were born know were and you never have to come back to this world

His arguments for existence of afterlife were not explanatory, he didn’t give any good enough reasons for an afterlife and that’s not me saying that afterlife doesn’t exist. I was hoping for something better than revelation, and that he didn’t explain.

Is death an illusion, so as life and afterlife ?

Alright you cannot convince anybody that they are the eternal one. Neither can you convince anybody that one's purpose is eternally love which is why one is diverse. Except perhaps through advanced studies of the physics, cosmology, biology, etymology or ancient scriptures such as the Bible, upanishads, vedas, etc but this interest needs to come from the individual, the person. Either way. It's all good. Nobody will be forsaken. All are loved. All are the same source. We are the one good. The meaning of life is love. Bless you all. Love you all.

I think it shows the nature of humanity, you give them on average 70, or far more years, and they still want a bit more time. We say when people die, rest in peace, that is what I hope for, peace, quiet, rest and oblivion. I find it sad we are not brave enough to live and die well without the childish crutch of some kind of reward for doing so. Gods and afterlives stop people from fully living the one life they know to be real. Now is your chance to really live, take it.

If you are wicked now, you will NEVER remember anything of your past when you come back again. You SHOULD pray or think clearly to KNOW Truth before you even think of leaving.

What is an Afterlife?
Why worry while living? Anyhow, every creature will come to know about it. It's better to worry about what life is while one is alive and knowing life will surely contain clues about the afterlife.

Next program, is consciousness emergent in the universe upon death and what would that look like?

Unless and until you can retain a sense of personal identity and self awareness, any participation, as you, in an afterlife, will be brief.

What is life like on the other side of the instantaneously closing doors, in the realm of faith? What is man's life when filled with light to be? Essentially it is a life which no longer takes seriously the ego or the world's threats upon it. It is living now, in the present, without anxiety. He who has crossed over does not worry about food or clothing or anything else. Like the lilies of the field and the birds of the air he depends wholly upon the divine light for sustenance.
The enlightened one lives an extraordinary simple, yet amazingly rich life. He does not live for tomorrow but concentrates wholly upon today. For him the lily summers with a beauty the old Masters only groped for but never captured. He wants little and enjoys much. He does not aim to make a name for himself and yet excels at what he does. Like the birds of the air he wings his way gracefully through life.
But, one is bound to say, isn't this wholly impractical and unworkable way of life? From the vantage point of the EGO and its illusions it surely is. No one who believes in good American common sense could conceivably accept this. It goes against the grain of everything we know and believe. But then, Yeshua doesn't pretend to be teaching American common sense. He does not maintain that he is providing a workable ethic for the world. He is describing the life of those who have repented and crossed over. He is dispelling illusions.

Matthew 7:1-5 - Judging Others

7 “Do not judge, or you too will be judged.
2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?
4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye, ’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye?
5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

The illuminated life is a life of non-discrimination. No longer does one say, "This is good and that is bad, " for one is beyond pleasure and pain, reward and threat. He who has crossed over loves all men indiscriminately, without regard to intent or action. Thieves and murderers stand with bishops and kings in the cast of characters which act out the drama before us. Why should one love the one more than the other? Are they not all united in that one light?
From the vantage point of those who have crossed over all human judging is both ludicrous and tragic. It is ludicrous because it is invariably but an example of one blind man attacking another because the latter cannot see. The whole human comedy is one of delusion and ignorance in which the actors flail about in the darkness.
At the same time, it is tragic because every ego-action has its deleterious effects. The more one judges, the more one is entangled in the illusion of good and evil, the more the ego feels threatened by judgment. Every sneer at another is a sneer at oneself, for ultimately all men are one. Like the Indian doctrine of karma, Yeshua's teachings emphasize that built into the cosmos is a law of retribution. The judgement you give is the judgement you get. Each ego constitutes it's own hell.

Lamb of God
Jeremias makes the further observation that the Hebrew word 'talia' means both "lamb" and "boy" or "servant." In the first instance, then, the Baptist may have meant his words as a reference to the Servant of God who bears the sins of the world by his vicarious atonement. But this reference also identifies him as the true Passover Lamb who expiates and wipes away the sin of the world: "The Savior, dying on the Cross, went to his vicarious death patiently like a sacificial lamb. By the expiatory power of his innocent death he blotted guilt of all mankind" (TDNT, 1, p.340). If at the extreme hour of Israel's oppression in Egypt, the blood of the Paschal lamb had been the key to its liberation, now the Son who became a servant - the shepherd who became a sheep - no longer stands just for Israel, but for the liberation of the world - for mankind as a whole.

This brings us to the great theme of Jesus' universal mission. Israel does not exist for itself; its election is rather the path by which God intends to come to all men. This idea of universality will turn up again and again as the real core of Jesus' mission. By referring to the Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world, the Fourth Gospel places this idea right at the beginning of Jesus' journey.
The reference to the Lamb of God interprets Jesus' Baptism, his descent into the abyss of death, as a theology of the Cross, if we may so express it. All four Gospels recount in their different ways that, as Jesus came up from the water, heaven was "torn open" (Mk 1:10) or "was opened" (Mt 3:16; Lk 3:21); that the Spirit came down upon him "like a dove"; and that in the midst of all this a voice from heaven resounded. According to Mark and Luke, the voice addresses Jesus with the words "Thou art...."; according to Matthew, the voice speaks about him in the third person, saying, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased" (Mt 3:17). The image of the dove may be a reminiscence of what the creation account says about the Spirit brooding over the waters (Gen 1:2); the word 'like' ("like a dove") suggests that it is "a simile for something that ultimately cannot be described" (Gnilka, Matthausevangelium, 1, p.78). The same heavenly voice sounds out again at the Transfiguration of Jesus, though with the addition of the imperative to "listen to him."

JOHN 6:52-58 The Bread from Heaven
52 The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, 'How can this man give us his flesh to eat?'
53 So Jesus said to them, 'Very truly, I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.
54 Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood have eternal life, and I will raise them up on the last day (at the last trumpet);
55 for my flesh is true food and my blood is true drink.
56 Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood abide in me, and I in them.
57 Just as the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so Whoever eats me will live because of me.
58 This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like that which your ancestors are, and they died. But the one who eats this bread will live for ever.'
41 Then the Jews began to complain about him because he said, 'I am the bread that came down from heaven.'
42 They were saying, 'Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How can he now say, "I have come down from heaven"?'
43 Jesus answered them, 'Do not complain among yourselves.
44 No one can come to me unless drawn by the Father who sent me; and I will raise that person up on the last day.
45 It is written in the prophets, "And they shall all be taught by God." Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me.
46 Not that anyone has seen the Father except the one who is from God; he has seen the Father.
47 Very truly, I tell you, whoever believes has eternal life.
48 I am the bread of life.
49 Your ancestors are the manna in the wilderness, and they died.
50 This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die.
51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats of this bread will live for ever; and the bread that I will give for the life of the world is My Flesh.'
40 This is indeed the will of my Father, that all who see the Son and believe in him may have eternal life; and I will raise them up on the Last Day.'

All human actions are motivated at their deepest level by two emotions--fear or love. In truth there are only two emotions--only two words in the language of the soul.... Fear wraps our bodies in clothing, love allows us to stand naked. Fear clings to and clutches all that we have, love gives all that we have away. Fear holds close, love holds dear. Fear grasps, love lets go. Fear rankles, love soothes. Fear attacks, love amends.

"Feeling is the language of the soul"

"...hidden in your deepest feelings is your highest truth"

"All people are special"

"The deepest secret is that life is not a process of discovery, but a process of creation"

"You came into this life with nothing to learn - you have only to demonstrate what you already know"

"You are always in the process of creating. Every moment. Every minute. Every day."

"There is only one reason to do anything: as a statement to the universe of Who You Are"

"Allow each soul to walk its path"

"A thing is only right or wrong because you say it is. A thing is not right or wrong intrinsically."

"Emotion is the power which attracts. That which you fear strongly, you will experience"

"What you fear most is what will most plague you. Fear will draw it to you like a magnet"

"Masters are those who have chosen only love. In every circumstance. Even as they were being killed, they loved their murderers"

"There are no coincidences in the universe"

"God is in the sadness and the laughter, in the bitter and the sweet. There is a divine purpose behind everything—and therefore a divine presence in everything"

"Very few of the value judgments you have incorporated into your truth are judgments you, yourself, have made based on your own experience. Yet experience is what you came here for—and out of your experience were you to create yourself. You have created yourself out of the experience of others"

"Desire is the beginning of all creation. It is first thought. It is a grand feeling within the soul"

"You are a three-fold being. You consist of body, mind, and spirit"

"Your soul is the sum-total of every feeling you've ever had"

"The first thing to understand about the universe is that no condition is "good" or "bad". It just is. So stop making value judgments.
The second thing to know is that all conditions are temporary. Nothing stays the same, nothing remains static. Which way a thing changes depends on you"

"All your life you think you are your body. Some of the time you think you are your mind. It is at the time of your death that you find out Who You Really Are" - Page 81

"You are goodness and mercy and compassion and understanding. You are peace and joy and light. You forgiveness and patience, strength and courage, a helper in time of need, a comforter in time of sorrow, a healer in time of injury, a teacher in times of confusion. You are the deepest wisdom and the highest truth; the greatest peace and the greatest love. You are these things. And in moments of your life you have known yourself as these things.
Choose now to know yourself as these things always"

"Life is a creation, not a discovery"

"You do not live each day to discover what it holds for you, but to create it. You are creating your reality every minute, probably without knowing it"

"In order to truly know God, you have to be out of your mind"

"Enlightenment is understanding that there is nowhere to go, nothing to do, except exactly who you're being right now"

"What you resist, persists"

"Passion is the love of turning being into action. It fuels the engine of creation. It changes concepts to experience"

"To live your life without expectations—without the need for specific results—that is freedom" -

"Beingness is the highest state of existence."

"The point of life is not to get anywhere—it is to notice that you are, and have always been, already there. You are, always and forever, in the moment of pure creation. The point of life is therefore to create—who and what you are, and then to experience that"

"Suffering is an unnecessary aspect of the human experience. It is not only unnecessary, it is unwise, uncomfortable, and hazardous to your health"

"...suffering has nothing to do with events, but with one's reaction to them"

"What's happening is merely what's happening. How you feel about it is another matter"

"There is nothing scary about life, if you are not attached to results"

"You always get what you create, and you are always creating"

"...the purpose of relationships is not to have another who might complete you; but to have another with whom you might share your completeness"

"You must first see your Self as worthy before you can see another as worthy. You must first see your Self as blessed before you can see another as blessed. You must first know your Self to be holy before you can acknowledge holiness in another"

"Cultivate the technique of seeing all problems as opportunities"

"By your decisions you paint a portrait of Who You Are"

"Embarrassment is the response of a person who still has an ego investment in how others see him"

"Doing is a function of the body. Being is a function of the soul. The body is always doing something. Every minute of every day it's up to something. It never stops, it never rests, it's constantly doing something.
It's either doing what it's doing at the behest of the soul—or in spite of the soul. The quality of your life hangs in the balance"

"True masters are those who have chosen to make a life, rather than a living"

"The actions of the body were meant to be reflections of a state of being, not attempts to attain a state of being"

Philosophers and Theologians basing their conclusions on reports of those who channel, divine and are endorsed by others are at best hearsay. Without knowing the level of mind, how it's influenced, used and is ignorant of the interactions of what is inner at work relies on speculations and validations referring to itself for what makes sense to itself. My book 'I Am is Inside Out', just launched, explains that and more. It's on Amazon in the book category. Buy the new version. I returned editing books that were missing parts and misprinted, but Amazon sells pallets of returns. Someone bought a pallet with my returns and is selling them as used.

Since consciousness isn't from the human body, it doesn't die.
It's a survival mechanism.

You're neither dead nor alive yet both and neither. You try to conceptualize it by putting it into a box called consciousness and you will lose. Just have faith in the author and enjoy the ride cuz most of it is out of your control right now (moksha). The best conceptualization I've heard is calling it the unborn or spirit.
