House Republicans Set Sights On Cutting Social Security

MSNBC asked Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar about her conversations with Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz on the House floor during the speakership votes. Omar says Gaetz spoke about what it would take for him to support McCarthy, as well as some of the potentially "exciting" components of the upcoming rules package, like defense spending cuts and the establishment of a new church commission.

Meanwhile, Fox host Stuart Varney asks Republican Michael Waltz whether US Defense spending cuts should be on the table in this Congress, and if House Republicans should be carrying them out. Rep. Waltz says he agrees with Rep. Jim Jordan that "woke" military policies need to be carved out along with “entitlements” like Social Security.

Here’s my thing with cutting social security….. the economy would crash….. you have a huge chunk of the population solely dependent on social security…. People who cannot work otherwise. So what’s the alternative for them? That’s a lot less money being spent and a lot of instant poverty

Any politician from any political party who wants to cut funding towards SSDI, SNAP, TANF, Section 8, education, healthcare & any US federal/state safety net programs should be required to go to elementary, middle & highschools to explain why they want to hurt them & their families.

Social Security is NOT an entitlement (preaching to the choir here, I know). I've been paying into it for 50+ years, and I deserve every penny back. I would be homeless without it, so this is scary.

Social Security is paid for with Social Security taxes not imcome taxes. Cut those things that are paid for with income taxes. Social security trust fund is paid and solvent for years to come. It amazes me that politicians don't bring this point up. Why dont we have this discussion about defense spending? Thats paid for with income tax.

Edit: I was never really a Bernie Sanders fan but it will be interesting to see if he runs if Biden decides not to. I would vote for him
