This game was my childhood, and I remember my sister went with team Rose, my mother went with team Chaotix, my father went with team Sonic, and I was the first to beat their story and I had the team Dark story. So in a way, this song brings me great memories.

I will never forget the scenery of driving home from a big city, and having my friend tell me to play this during a horrible rainstorm, pretty much silent in the car as this song blasts in the pitch black, with all the intense heavy rain. such a cool backdrop for the first time hearing this song in 15+ years again

this song makes me understand that while "eggman" is a silly harmless-sounding name, "the egg man" is an incredibly worrying and intimidating concept

It took me until NOW to realize "This machine" doesn't refer to Omega and possibly Shadow being robots but the metaphor of being trapped in a master plan unable to control your fate which fits better with Team Dark's underlying story, about breaking free from that pre-determined fate but feeling bound to it without answers.

Gotta love the way this soundtrack is ordered, the absolute whiplash from going from how cutesy Follow Me is to “WE ALL DANCED IN FIRE! TRAPPED IN THIS MACHINE!”
