Small correction: The death toll was actually around 500k-600k. Iran and Iraq played up their respective death tolla to build sympathy for their side which is where the "1 million dead" figure came from

The Iran- Iraq war was long and brutal. I can only see wars like this continuing to happen unless there is a single governing world body to control states or states put aside their ethical, territorial, and nationalist differences and work as one.
