Ruby killed Torchwick, not the lady who was basically like, "Work for me or die, " and was basically the reason they were in the middle of that Grimm in attack at Beacon in the first place.
Also, apparently a few fans are angry for what she did to Ruby. I'm like, why are you surprised? Did you see Volume 2? She's serial killer assassin! She likes playing with her victims and smiled when she was about to kill Yang. She's a psycho!

I'm just trying to figure out how Lionheart plays into anything Ruby feels guilty about. Let alone something Neo would even know to use against her. Neither of them even knew that man. Did Ruby even know that he died? 🤣

As much as I see Neo as worthless this season It didn't surprise me much cause it felt like the only three character were ruby, jaune and the cat. The moment everyone else looked at their most monumental failure and brushed it off like it was a tuesday except ruby and jaune, I already disconnected from them so a bunch of plot fulfilling husk were already around for me.

I miss when Neo was just a hyper-competent sidekick henchwoman. Now she’s an overpowered (when the plot demands she be) plot device that people want redeemed for some reason.

Something I thought could’ve been interesting is that Neo wants to kill both Cinder and Ruby it plays into her being a sadistic little psycho: she goes after Ruby first because she is (presumably) the easier target, as for Cinder she plays the part of stooge, the grunt, all for her to let Cinder lower her guard or simply be to arrogant to think Neo is a threat and that’s when she kills her. Imagine Volume 8 ended with Cinder doing her stupid little “you should’ve never had been born” only to have her get impaled from behind as both the “Neo” hanging onto the ledge and the hush that was kicked over it were both illusions.

Never have I ever seen someone so perfectly express my opinion of a character in this show so well. And that part about her dragging down the otherwise much better volume 9. On point.

Personally, I think Yang is by far the worst character in this volume but your points are valid about Neo.

I loved Neo in the earlier volumes but she's been chasing Ruby for years and I got more questions than answers about her illusions knowing all they need to know. It's not about if Neo knows said information, it's about plot progression hence why her illusions don't make any sense. It was to cater to one thing, Ruby's development. To sink into the abyss and be reborn as a huntress. Now that Neo has served her purpose, she will no doubt get stuck or die in the Ever After, it happens to every villain.

Lionheart fulfilled his purpose and he died, Watts got his moment and died, Hazel made up with Oz and then he died.

The writers love to just throw away intriguing characters or when characters who have no direction for them.l anymore. They can't wait around and write characters properly so instead they take the easy route and pander to the ships because they think they know how to build romance.

Plus we have to get to Vacuo. You know who pulled Vacuo out of nowhere?...Yang did! The same person who talked trash about Ironwood this very volume. The same person who isn't traimised by Ruby's "death" or illusions of her in zombie form. She pushes through everything because she has her car girlfriend to look out for.

Rather than have Blake and Yang have issues more than just building their ship, we have to get a BMBLB moment in every single episode this volume! (I'm not kidding) The only reason Blake isn't as bad this volume is because her hobby of books was actually but to good use here to keep up the narrative. I liked that but...

Side note: It’s cool that we get some instance to who Summer Rose was, but I don’t get the ‘flashback’ in the recent episode. Are we forgetting that Summer literally left before Ruby could learn how to talk? Why was she there? Better yet, Ruby claims her mom read her stories, but it was stated multiple times that it was Yang who read her those stories? ….is continuity just not a thing when it comes to RWBY anymore?

Regarding Neo, I felt the character just flew out the window after we got her and Torchwick’s backstory in a DIFFERENT piece of media, instead of the show, because the best way to tell a story is to not explain anything at all, then give the answers in something completely different. And one might argue, “well video games do it all the time, if you want to learn more about XY and Z, you can play the side game or buy expansion passes.” and you’d be right about that. Thing is, RWBY doesn’t know how to tell a story. Remember when World of Remnant was a thing? Yknow, where you got exposition from a side series instead of the actual show??? Like c’mon.

2nd Edit, sorry 😅: Why does everyone think Neo’s semblance evolved? In Roman Holiday, she was able to bring her imaginary friend to life. It wouldn’t be far fetched if she could make fake copies of anyone, so why is everyone, including characters of the show acting like it evolved? Her Semblance is literally called Overactive Imagination, I wouldn’t be surprised if she can create a whole castle with an army.

I felt the same way. Neo trusting Cinder over and over again made no sense to me. Absolutely none.
Good point in how despite Cinder's betrayal, taking the relic and knocking her off the ledge (an act I never accepted as anything but bad writing, seeings how the writers completely ignored Neo's semblance.) Neo is still only after Ruby. Instead of trying to find a way back to get revenge on Cinder.

And yeah, another convenient Semblance upgrade. Just like with Emerald.

Also, Very good point about could Neo have known Penny is dead. I completely forgot about that little tidbit.
I guess the scene was done for 'dramatic purposes'!?? Pretty much par for the course currently.

I may be wrong, but I am feeling like they are setting up Neo for some level of redemption. I feel like she is being made to look like a victim now.
