"The White House on Thursday publicly called out Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (Ga.), Matt Gaetz (Fla.) and other Republican lawmakers who criticized student loan debt relief but benefited from debt forgiveness of the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans during the pandemic.

“Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene had $183,504 in PPP loans forgiven,” the White House tweeted, sharing a link to the lawmaker complaining on Newsmax that it’s “completely unfair” for the government “just to say ‘ok’ your debt is completely forgiven.”

In 2020, her family’s construction company received upward of $182,000 in loans that did not have to be paid back, according to a ProPublica database. Including interest, the total amount forgiven was $183,504. Greene’s office did not immediately return a request for comment Thursday."

How is it all these politicians got millions in PPP loans when real small businesses couldn't even get into the website to apply and eventually wound up going out of business during the pandemic?

Voting is a bit like driving. Shift to 'D' to progress forward. Shift to 'R' to go backward. Choose wisely!

They're only doing this because of the midterms, but I'll take it. If only they would do this on a regular basis.

Love you guys - Cenk you’re hilarious!! And finally, the White House is defending themselves. I always wondered why students can’t file for bankruptcy but corporations can.

I worked full time and studied part time for 14 years to achieve a BA, a post Grad Dip and a Masters, so never had an actual debt, I paid for the units and did 1 or 2 a semester. I also didn't have time for a life and destroyed 2 relationships with the amount of work and study. So never had time to have a family. Now I'm too old to have kids. I am in full agreement that education should be free and all student debt should be forgiven. Give the next generation a chance the X Gen never had.

This is what needs to be done. Call these people out every time they speak out hypocritically.

Why these people with a lot of money get a loan they don’t deserve it, they did not need help. And then they have the nerve to bully less fortunate people they are disgusting

For those that says I paid back all my debt and I did not take out a loan. Good for you. Likewise I helped my sister pay back her loan and I am paying my children’s debt. I still believe that it is right to help those that are struggling.

my RN wife worked her ass off during the pandemic in cardiovascular pulmonary OR. 10000 off her student loan is well deserved for the sacrifices she made and continues to make

Why hasn't anybody brought up the fact the majority of the people receiving debt forgiveness have also paid their taxes for their entire adult lives a lot of them they're teenagers as well. So they're upset that some of my own tax money is going to pay for my own student loans but they don't think I have a right to be upset that some of my tax money is also going to pay off their debt. If you ask me that sounds like a fair and even trade.

Shall we mention that total ppp forgiveness was $394B, but student loan forgiveness is only around $230B.

The worst part is that jobs in the 80's increasingly required 4 year degrees and there was no objective reason to require the degrees. That is still true now. The other part was you had to have experience. Eventually you found a job in the field to get experience at minimum wages or a cent more.

I was 50/50 on this loan forgiveness thing with college, but now I'm like, "Nah, dude, screw you guys... let them have their 10K. Hypocrites"

Saying that we shouldn't forgive current college graduates student loan debt since it would be unfair for previous college graduates that have already paid off their student loan debt is like saying we shouldn't find a cure for a disease people face today because people in the past died from that disease. Also, how can a country that spends close to a trillion dollars on it's military budget every single year be against spending a fraction of that amount to forgive student loans just once?

GQP: "PEOPLE NEED TO PAY THEIR DEBTS!" Trump repeatedly stiffs and underpaid subcontractors during his casino construction, then goes bankrupt again and again. Not to mention Trump "University" and the Trump Foundation, both of which were court ordered to close. Republicans love the grift.
