Hi there! I am a professional landscape designer, please do not make the front plant beds smaller🙏 the larger the better. You do not want to plant your shrubs too close to your house ...those hydrangea in your previous pic are at least 5’ round prepare for the plants to grow and you don’t want them touching the house, and you want layering with flowers so you will need the space. Also the tree included will look much better. The larger the beds the larger your house looks, there must be balance 😍

As much as I love your home in L.A. - there is something so very special about this cottage. I'm not sure if its because I love Victorian architecture and design or if its because you did so much of the renovation and construction yourself, but I absolutely love this cottage. It has so much character and the decor you have incorporated so far is just gorgeous. I love that you preserved and used materials from the original structure and I love all the vintage elements. Can't wait for this cottage to be completed. (I am obsessed with the art work in your entry.)

Sakrete Perma Sand is a grout for pavers. It doesn't wash out. It also prevents weeds and ant hills.

Maybe limestone slabs for your front steps near the porch and slope near the gateway?

Always love the subtle mentions of security to remind the crazies, the creepers and the criminals to stay away! I would do the same thing if I were you🤣

Now is about the right time to prune your roses, early spring cut them down to about 6 inches, they'll grow back to their height now but will produce a lot more roses. If you cut your ferns all the way down to the dirt it will come back! Just fertilize everything. Hope you feel better

I would definitely buy more clamps to finish the kitchen cabinets!!

I love that you are young and so inspired to take one such big projects. You remind me of me and my husband 32 years ago we bought an old four room farm house over 100 years old and we’ve been working on it ever since. I don’t think it will ever be done. lol You inspire me to do more. Keep up the great work! Everything is beautiful and you will enjoy your home throughout the whole process because you are doing it yourself. ❤❤❤😊😊😊

You need to prune your roses now. I always remember because Valentine’s Day/ trim roses. There’s lots of YouTube videos or instructions online.

Please consider the open space near the spice rack-(pretty space) for a step stool cubby, it can slide in & cover with a door.

Hi MaCenna! I know you mentioned that you didn’t want to bore us with cabinet making, but I feel like we just want to be on your journey! Bring us with you in this. Rooting for you!!!

You might want to use polymeric sand joint mixture to help set the sidewalk pavers. It solidifies with water and rainwater.

If you cut the ferns way back in the spring and put them under a tree or somewhere in the shade they will come back! You may need to deadwood them and repot but they can come back from this! I agree with the landscaper about keeping the original footprint to the flowerbeds! It will create a grander entrance and less grass to mow! The bed will look really good with a pine straw or cedar chip underlay! The cedar chips also ward off termites!

Recommend staining back porch - more durable than paint & can get shade to match front porch. Would also advise against separating tree in front from rest of flower bed. The less you have to mow around, the better. Once you get shrubs, etc. in place you'll see that bed won't look so big with the tree included in it.
