In this session we look at how to change the font used for IBM i 5250 Interactive session.

As the display resolution of out workstations becomes larger, this is a really useful change that allows the 5250 session to scale up to fill the entire screen without wasting valuable screen space.

This videos is based on feed back left by other viewers, I am truly grateful for this feed back and ideas, so you if have anything you want me to talk about, drop a comment below.

It is important to note that the IBM3270 font maintains a 4:3 aspect ratio no matter the size of the window. In contrast, the PComm session font fills the window with the font. If the window is short and wide, the font may become stretched unreadable. If the windows is tall and narrow, the font may become stretched and unreadable. If the windows is near the standard 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio or similar, the results will be excellent. I prefer PComm session font as it fills the screen nicely. However, we have users that resize their windows into odd aspect ratios and end up with a strange looking session. If that is an issue or your have screens that present "graphics" such as a nice round pie chart, you may want to stick with the 4:3 aspect ratio enforced by IBM3270.

Where do you get the Pcomm font and how do you install it?

It doesn’t appear in the list of fonts in my installation.
