My mother died of Parkinson's. Once in a while I worry about getting it myself. But I am happy to hear that my being vegan can help me prevent getting Parkinson's.

This hypothesis has been disproven. A recent study that raised uric acid levels of Parkinson's patients was halted early for futility. This was a bad idea from the get-go - there are many serious adverse consequences to high uric acid levels.

Want to lower your risk of parkinson's, gout, and heart disease? Eat a variety of fruits and veggies, avoid all animal products, limit salt intake and drink tea/water as the preferred beverage of choice.

I have an idea for a video, can you share your ideas on root canal, there is a big concern of toxicity coming from anaerobic bacteria breading in the tubes that are not feeled in . That toxicity is a precursor for serious diseases like strokes, heard attacks and other.

Dr. Greger talks about milk consumption here. Does cheese have the same or similar effect on uric acid and pesticide exposure?

So a little yogurt in my smoothies might be a good thing. I have had high uric acid levels in the past.

Well given the choice rather have minor gout and high blood pressure, which I have, then go the other way. No beef nor pork, and vege three times a week. Thanks for the vids.

So drink beer which raises uric acid. also for anyone suffering try mannitol, coconut oil and a ketogenic diet - these may help

Hi Dr Greger. Can you answer a question for my father?

He still has high LDL and high triglycerides even after eating a mostly whole foods vegan diet with only a few added walnuts a day as a fat source. He eat a lot of calorie dense foods (brown rice, beans, dates) and does drink coffee twice a day with a spoon of sugar. He also doesn't exercise much these days.

He recently stopped taking his low dose statin and began taking 1/4 teaspoon turmeric, 1/4 tsp amla powder, 2 tbsp ground flax, and red yeast rice in addition to his normal diet.

Do you have advice on a lifestyle change or supplement addition he needs to make to get his LDL/triglycerides to a healthy level?

Excellent work as always! I have a question... what does it mean to have a lower level of uric acid according to the regular range table? last year I took a blood test and I don't remember the numbers but my result was under the expected "normal range" (the other measures were quite good, the doctors congratulated me and just right there I mention that I am vegan, so they can't argument silly advices in order to eat meat and stuff :D)

So, am I fine? I assumed that such low uric acid is because I don't consume corpses (12 years vegan)...

Thanks in advance...!!!

my husband gets gout.. usually when we work a lot. I think it is b/c when we have a work long show and then off a week to a few then work again - he ups his coffee but also on his feet a lot. We are vegans... just not sure about this whole gout thing and vegans. No he doesn't drink alcohol. But he does do a lot of cereal and his coffee in take is regular unless we work then he ups it and that is usually when he gets gout.

It wasn't clear to me what the implications of eating plant based are for this. Are vegans better off than meat eaters?
