0:00 Intro
1:55 Journalist Bill Curtis has had Parkinson's since 2000. As predicted, he was dramatically affected 10 years later with advanced Parkinson's. Now the only symptom he has is a slight tremor.
4:48 Within about 2 hours of eating carbs, Bill will begin to shake and feel rigid. He doesn't get the full on symptoms he had before.
7:38 Bill was in an exercise program. In an attempt to enhance the effects of the program, he fasted overnight and had nothing for breakfast before the workout. He found it alleviated his profound fatigue.
11:27 Fasting helped with the fatigue, but there were many more symptoms that were not reversed. Bill continued researching.
13:02 Bill exercised fasted every day for a year. He lost weight, but eventually, it stopped working. As you become fit, you make fewer ketones.
15:04 Dr. Veech suggested that Bill try Bulletproof Coffee after the night fast. Nearly all of his symptoms abated at the end of the first hour.
19:36 The military has been experimenting with Dr. Veech's ketone ester for radiation exposure.
22:26 A therapeutic ketogenic diet is one with 80 to 90% of your food as fat. Bill has devised 4 levels of ketosis.
30:33 Within the first 10 days of taking ketone ester, Bill no longer had urinary incontinence.
32:07 There is data that an elevation of uric acid it will delay the onset of Parkinson's. If you have Parkinson's, and your uric acid levels are higher, you decline more slowly.
36:14 BHB allows you to make more dopamine, serotonin, adrenaline, noradrenaline and nitric oxide.
38:00 In advanced Parkinson's neurotransmitters are negatively impacted. With ketosis, you are making serotonin, noradrenaline, adrenaline, dopamine and nitric oxide synthase.
38:52 Every antioxidant has to be recharged with an electron from NADPH, directly or indirectly.
39:50 Beta hydroxybutyrate raises NADPH levels using isocitrate dehydrogenase in the cytoplasm, outside of the mitochondria.
42:24 NADPH levels in the mitochondria does not correlate with NADPH levels in the cytosol. We should measure the cytosolic NADPH.
44:09 NADPH voltage is dependent upon the relative concentrations. More equals more resilience.
48:52 Dismutase does not get its electrons from the battery. It does this by taking 2 molecules of superoxide, oxidizing one and reducing the other.
52:59 You have the ability to use ketones to restore ischemia-reperfusion and turn off inflammation.
54:08 NADPH controls inflammation.
55:04 Dr. Veech found that treating Alzheimer's mouse models with beta hydroxybutyrate kept them from accumulating beta amyloid deposits.
58:03 Bill believes that TBI will respond very well to BHB, as evidenced by people close to him with head injuries.
01:02:41 Bill has created an online course to help people help each other. You need a cook, a coach, a nutritionist and a doctor.
01:04:36 Bill must still take his Parkinson's medications.

What a brave man, great interview. Thank you for bringing a voice to people like this. Fair play to him for making a change!! I have gone keto (well my own high fibre version) since may 8th 2023. I don’t have Parkinson’s but felt I was on a slippery slope to weight gain and physical break-down of “ageing” so I got going. Little did I know that it would TRANSFORM our lives, as in me, my oldest overweight son who lost all the weight and became a happy charming boy again from a moody angry boy, my second son, 14 who was transformed into non-moody happy spot and dandruff free guy, daughter who became nice! Second daughter who is more reasonable (she’s 11), and darling husband who lost all worry and work stress!!! We are a family transformed and feel armed for the white carb refined sugar future we were facing!! We do still have our food fun occasionally like xmas and birthdays etc, but honestly happiness and health are entirely possible!!! ❤🎉 we need more channels like yours, thank you!!

I know this was made long ago, but I am horrified that... I am involved as a participant of a large, long Parkinson's Study (I do not have the diagnosis). I regularly answer surveys that ask about everything from sleep to medications to exercise ... not ONE question about nutrition or diet.

My father was a neurologist.
The only thing he was afraid of was Parkinson's. He never thought diet made a difference in neurological diseases and the recent developments in the last 10 years that are diet based is exciting. Wish my dad was here to see this. He would be amazed.

My father suffers from Parkinson's and I am desperate to help. Not just for my father, but for my Mother who is his care giver. This is a ray of hope. Thanks so much.

My mom has had parkinsons for 13 yrs now. She has a major sweet tooth. I started noticing when she ate sweets, she would totally shut down. I have mentioned this to her docs and they said no it's not the suger, its protein. Thank you so much for putting this out here and thinking outside the box of the docs.

This is an awesome video and very inspiring. I also have Parkinsons due to agent orange exposure along with other medical issues. 3 years ago I had a cardiac event that put me in the hospital with a diagnosis of CAD. overweight and short of breath. At that point I decided that I had to make a change. I started walking early in the morning and eventually was up to speed walking 6 miles 5 days away. I started eating healthy and started losing weight . I decided to start zumba classes at 67 and now scheduled to become an zumba instructor. Last week I went to Costa Rica and was able to surf. Life is good. still exercising and eating right.

I've been following you Mike for only a few years, since 2023 for my metabolic health. This video showed up in my feed today as I'm researching Parkinson's because of a possible diagnosis a family member is going through. I would love to know how Mr. Curtis is doing, seven years later. I hope and pray he is doing well and continuing to thrive.

Fascinating. Mike your interviews are top. You ask the right questions, you allow your guest to answer and explain. Very nice. Thank you for bringing your interviews to us.

love this. And that's why patients know even more than their doctors. People want to learn the cause of it, treat the natural way more and not only treating symptoms with medication.

What an ahah moment!! I am diagnosed with LEMS. For years I have said that when I increase my exercise level, I am extra stiff the next day and Have terrible fatigue. I never considered that it could be lactic acid breakdown and increased blood sugar levels. Professionals tell me to keep exercising and it will improve. Every time I increase my exercise I feel terrible. Thank you !

This YouTube video was sent to me by a friend. I’d already subscribed to the channel but missed this one. I was diagnosed last summer with PD with just mild symptoms and entered an Drug Research program. It pushed me from Stage One into Stage Two. I withdrew from the program and decided I needed to take responsibility for myself and this disease. I stumbled upon the Gut-Brain connection, started putting 2 and 2 together and started intermittent fasting with Bulletproof coffee and C8 MCT Oil. In 8 weeks I lost 20 pounds, down from 179 to 159. (I’m 5”8” and 66 years old). My symptoms have all but disappeared. I have a slight tremor on and off in my right thumb and my signature has returned to normal after 6 years. I take high doses of Magnesium Citrate for the leg cramps which have pretty much disappeared too and takes care of the constipation. I harvested stinging nettle roots, freeze dried them (I have a HarvestRight freeze dryer) then made a tincture out of it. I use an eye dropper full twice a day which solved the BPH prostate issues causing difficulty in urination. It suppresses the estrogen that causes BPH. The Germans use that over Flomax with no adverse side effects.
Excellent video, now I need to find a Keto Dietician since this is too much for my wife to handle. This diagnosis has been harder on her than it has for me. Thanks so much!

Profound thanks for this interview!! It gives me so much more hope for my family with PD & for my own brain health & longevity. 17 years & such vitality & impressive processing of the biochemistry involved with ageing, ketosis, protein folding, etc.! That's challenging for same-age & younger ppl with no health problems! And now an online site to discuss & disseminate this information - thank God!
