I make a couple of wedges before I start batonning so if my knife gets stuck I can open up the split and free my knife, it also lets me split pieces that are a little thicker than I would normally try. Good video. I like what you are doing. I have shot off my mouth enough I guess I should make one of my own.

Moras can take it...Batoning, imho, is part of bushcraft. Knowing how, when and what you can baton and practicing. We all have a knife on us...and we can go out for a barbeque and get our wood split even if we don't have an axe....some people can't even grasp that concept...

Yes they can, i saw that you batoned with your Mora 511 in a video too, it is really good to know how your batoning, and it is useful if you dont have an ax. I know some people seem to be totally against it, but i like it a lot.

Cool video. A very controversial subject. My boys & I absolutely love batoning & we continually do it. It is a great conversation activity as we do it around the campfire. We pay for our knives & like my auto & construction tools we use them & if they break we replace them. I just ran into your channel will look through it. Oh & I just subbed.

Thank you, yea birch is a pretty hard wood, if the wood is to thick then is´s better to use an ax.

Super knives, Reliable as well and hold an edge well. Some of the bigger survival knives can knock out hard knots easily though. I baton with my Machete a lot of times.

Cool video... yeah that's some hard wood. While I love to baton I've never had the guts to try it with my mora knife yet, good job. I've also often batoned through knots, often cause it's all I have and I'm sure I've been fortunate that it didn't break. :) Then again, I love knives strong enough to handle it. :)

Pretty tough to break a Mora. For their price, they're an excellent bushcraft knife. I own several, and rely on them heavily. My primary knife is my Ka-Bar BK-2.

I agree with you 100% A knife is a knife not an AX. I think its all these "Survival TV shows" and so call "minimalist" . IMHO a "Minimalist" should have the "Minimal equipment" A tomahawk is very light...

Yea i like that knife, you are often batoning if you DONT have an ax. Batoning is a good way to splitt wood when you dont have an ax with you, if you dont split to large pieces of wood, then the knife shouldn't break or be damaged. PS, did you like Stockholm.

Yes, every Mora is a good knife, but the classic may not be so good at batoning, it can break if you push it to hard. But Mora are the best knives for bushcraft.

It did not get damaged for me, but if you use to hard wood it can crack.

Yea, but it is good to know how, and it is useful if you dont have an ax.
