As a geospatial information science major we had to learn a TON about the history of projections, datums and what maps are good in which circumstances for portraying which qualities.

Mercator is literally for sailing, and even then mostly just from Europe to the Americas or South Africa to the East. But because people making maps or traveling often depended on those it wasn’t noticed til later.

If you ever get a chance look up or watch a video on Alexander von Humbolt, he’s kinda an unsung hero of so many different fields and was a great activist. He invented infographics, discovered continental drift like 115 years early, had a warning about climate change and reintroduced the entire world to the ancient greek word Cosmos.

I'm not sure but you might possibly like some Karl Smallwood videos, the subject matter is extremely random but tends to be both interesting & entertaining

Real Life lore is an awful channel.

"Look at how tiny Europe is."

Well, if you had included the larger second half of the continent it wouldn't look so small now would it?

FYI, anything - in Eurasia - that is West of the Urals and North of the Caucasus mountains is Europe.

This could gave been represented on a global very easily, it wasn't because a lot is properganda. Look at a real globe it's easy to see the true. Al Murray does a good comedy sketch about the world with and inflated globe, take a look.
