If you're eyeing an iPad for drawing or illustration, you might be wondering: is there anything as good as the Apple Pencil, but cheaper?

The Metapen Pencil D1 is an iPad stylus for creatives. In this review, I talk about the pros and cons of this $30 ($37 CAD) stylus, from the point of view of an illustrator who uses the Apple Pencil every single day.

Déjà vu? — This is an update to a previous version of this review. I gave the wrong information about 1) the charging time (I had said it took 2h when it really only takes 30m), and 2) connecting via bluetooth (I had said you need to connect via Bluetooth settings every time, but all you have to do is click the function button to reconnect).

My metapen has been used for a year and broke down a month ago. I bought a YEBOS pen on Amazon for $9.9. It has good sensitivity and long battery life, which allows me to focus on my work better!

Greetings again. My D1 arrived today. First impressions. I like the grip. The button is difficult to find. A bump or indention or different color would help a LOT.
For someone totally new to the iPad and pencil experience, this is a very inexpensive way to start. 20€ and Bob's your uncle.
I think this is also what you're saying in this video.
I also got an apple pencil-like stylus. First impression. It's thin. I'll have to get used to it.

A very useful review. Thanks. I've never used a stylus before and only a few days ago got the iPad Pro M1. I can't draw. That being said, investing 20€ or so is a good way for newbies to learn about using a stylus before putting out SO MUCH money. As you say, it may be exactly what I need. Considering my big hands, I was attracted by the robust styling.
Because of the low price I also ordered the Penoval Stylus AX Pro 2 that has Wireless Charging, Pencil Shortcut Button, Tilt Sensitivity, Palm Rejection.
I looked for bargain pressure-sensitive pens but the 2 I found are no longer available.
I just hope this makes it a bit easier to edit the photographs that are my main hobby and the main reason I bought the iPad in the first place.
