The first case of AIDS was reported 40 years ago this month. Millions of people the world over have since lost their lives to the virus. The San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus feels the pain of that tragedy particularly acutely, having lost over 300 singers to AIDS since the choir was founded in 1978. Clint Johnson, a member of the Chorus for over 34 years, speaks with Michel Martin about the impact of the AIDS crisis and the Chorus' legacy.

Originally aired on June 23, 2021.

Michelle Martin is the best at interviewing people’s stories. Her ways of asking various questions that we all have is amazing. Please allow her to train Hari on how to become a great journalist.

You never get over it, the horror of losing friends, loved one, a neighbor. Almost everyone I knew died in a storm of ignorance and fear.

I just came on here after watching this interview to commend Michel Martin for this moving interview. Clint Johnson shared his perspective in a way that drew me in to his world. I want people like him in my life. Thank you for allowing us to hear his story. Prayers of continued healing to him and the community that has suffered so greatly.

I adore Ms Martin one of the very best interviewers in the business - can you please get her better audio equipment plus sound dampening - she sounds like she is talking in a pail with a lot of echo/reverb 🇨🇦❤️🇨🇦

All of these decades have passed and interviewers can't ask better questions. They can't see how AIDS was a global pandemic decades in the making.

Only by the blood of the lord Jesus Christ can you ever be with the one true God ...feelings don't matter but what the truth says.
