I just started studying music theory a couple days ago I thought it’d be tough but it’s actually quite fun thanks to awesome tutors on YouTube like you :) thank you

I think it’s important to specify for the sake of clarity that the bottom number tells you what kind of beat you need to use. 4 = a Quarter Note, 2 = Half Note, 8 = Eighth Note Etc.

I'm probably that one guy who searched this up lmao

Edit: I finally know Time signatures, bars and barlines now. I had to do a verbally counting so I needed this

2:49 The device shown here is in fact a "final" barline, which indicates the end of a given musical work; a "double" barline is comprised of two thin vertical lines (as opposed to a thin barline followed by a thick one, which constitutes a final barline as shown here), and indicates a significant change in the nature of the notation (e.g. rhythmic and/or tonal changes), such as one might find when transitioning from one section to another within a song.

Double barlines serve as a warning to the performer that the nature of the music (and therefore the notation representing it) is about to change significantly, rather than repeat in a similar way as before.

Some composers tend to use double barlines merely to indicate a section change, even when the latter section has similar properties to the former.
In these instances a "section name", "rehearsal mark" or similar should be utilised to mark the new section instead, as these are more appropriate devices for such a purpose.

Thank you so much for this -- I came here voluntarily as a teacher, and just wanted to say how clear (and yet actually enjoyable) this is. Confident that this video will help musicians of all ages understand! All the best.

I feel like I am the only one who got there on my own.

That said, thank you. I was always confused about time signatures and although I don't know what the second number is about at least I clearly understood the first one so THANK YOU

So the way for me to understand things with 100% clarity is to be taught like kids.
Clapping, preschool music background, drawing with colors, practicing.
Thanks

I used your program as the wrap-up activity and quiz for my 2nd grade music class. I displayed the video on my white board then as you asked a question I had each student come up and draw their answer to the question asked on the displayed projected stave. I paused the video before the answer was given & then we checked their answers with you. This was way better then pencil and paper and I marked their comprehension of the skill as we went through the video. Thank you for the way you taught this concept it was a great for me to use as an assessment tool. So your short 4:28 video took us 30 min to complete and the kids never lost interest! I will be using it for my 1st and 3rd grade music classes as well. Thank you - Very Interactive!
