How Did The Spinosaurus WOUND Cooper In Jurassic Park 3?

In Jurassic Park 3 we see Cooper get wounded by the Spinosaurus early on but it's never really explained how he was injured before his death. Here I look at the dinosaur in the scene and everything in Jurassic World's universe to try and make sense of it. Even though gunshots can be heard from both Cooper and maybe even from Nash early on, I don't think there was really any sort of good will being left to the man once the dino began it's attack. Isla Sorna seems to be a pretty savage place no matter where you are haha! Hope you all enjoy! :D

In a deleted scene and the director's commentary it is told that Cooper actually was injured by an infant Spinosaurus, who was then shot by him right beside it's nest and drawing "Big Momma" towards the group.
This not only explains Coopers injury, but also why the Spinosaurus was dead set on a killing spree against the group, pursuing them the whole movie.
Sadly the scene, explaining so much of the story, was cut from the movie because the director's thought it (and a couple others) would make it "too long" - do keep in mind however that Jurassic Park 3 was the shortest of all movies in the franchise so far.

Cooper was one of those deaths in JP that made me feel sad. I mean the poor guy gets left behind to fight a spino on his own, and begins to weep that his friends are leaving him on an island of monsters, I would cry too.

I like to call the Spinosaurus. "Stalkersaurus." My fav scene in the whole movie? When they reunite at the fence. And the Spino is just standing there like "Sup?"

From the scene it looks like Cooper heads into the jungle further down the runway from the other two. So it's possible that the Spinosaurus (drawn to the sound of the megaphone) encountered Nash and Udesky first (first roar), Cooper saw this and started shooting from the flank (first set of shots), the Spinosaurus turned and charged Cooper, the other two used the opportunity to escape, then Cooper engaged with the Spinosaurus (second roar and set of shots) and was injured here.

I always crack up hearing Grant say “it’s Cooper!” It’s such an obvious thing to point out, and no one responds because they’re all thinking “yeah, we’re not stopping for Cooper.”

It wasn't the Spinosaurus that wound him, it was a Raptor, and there's even script details that would shown this scene. It was deleted.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought it was messed up that Cooper was left behind. I remember watching this movie as a kid and when I saw Cooper run out telling them to stop, I felt so bad for him. I actually started crying. My dad had to pause it to tell me it was just a movie lol

No ONE is noticing that Cooper is dragging one of his feet as he runs out to the Runway,
his ankle is broken or his Achilles tendon has been severed

I think Cooper's wounds in the final cut are actually more likely to be environmentally-based. Say he slipped down a slope like in The Lost World and lost his gun. Also, given how big the gun was that he took into the jungle, it's likely that he abandoned it due to how heavy it looked. A BAD fall may also be the reason why he has a lot of those injuries in the first place. As for the mercenaries, I feel it's a JP standard trope to have bad guys who get a death that goes beyond karma and makes you feel sorry for their fate despite how terrible they are. Except the BioSyn guy in The Lost World novel, he deserved that one.

I always had 2 theories to this.
1. Cooper told them to leave and to come back for him. Underestimating the spino, once he got a full hit in it provoked spino and it lashed out, injuring him. He realized how vicious the animal was and ran for it. Nash didn't stop because he wanted to secure the passengers and maybe his pay and was willing to leave cooper should things go south.
2. Cooper seemed like he wasn't afraid to do any dirty work as he knocked out Grant without a second though. It almost seemed like he had some kind of personal agenda. He seemed like the proud hunter type so while he was scouting the area, the three spotted the Spino, and Cooper wanted to kill it. Seeing how there were three of them and only one dino, he saw it as an easy kill. Nash and Deski thought the plan was insane and left Cooper to do it alone. Rather than run, Cooper wanted bragging rights and engages the Spino, to his own regret. Nash didn't want to stop because again, his pay and passengers. Seeing cooper, nash thinks to himself, you did this to yourself and left him to die.

I feel bad that Dr. Grant was yelling "that's Cooper! STOP the plane" and it was even after he got knocked out by him.
