What Are Red Dwarf Stars?

Red dwarfs are the most common kind of stars in our galaxy. A full three-fourths are red dwarfs, but they are too dim for us to see them with our naked eyes from Earth.

Hey Ardit, don't forget the brown dwarf star.. although some folk do not actually consider them stars. Though they are not main sequence stars... I still find then a real interesting phenomenon... Luhman 16 (HR 2562b) is the closes it is in a binary system.. that might be interesting? carry on guys.

They make it sound like planets around red dwarves are habitable. The fact is that they would be tidally locked with the star so one side would always face it. One side of the planet would be hot while the other would be cold. Any water on the surface would boil off due to the heat. Not so great for life.

Actually, they are extinct stars, sorry
