Huge Problems with Antique Islamic Paintings on Ivory

At an antiques valuation event with Charlie and Rusty Wallrock from Wick Antiques we came across two Islamic paintings on ivory (miniatures) They belong to a WI member who came along to Wick Antiques to see us and they were inherited many years ago - they originate from the 1920’s / 30’s and we’re brought back from Persia by an English nurse who’d been working in the Middle East. The miniature themselves are likely earlier than the 1920’s, but certainly at least 100 years old
However, even though they’re obviously antique, were created generations ago, there are huge problems around owning, buying or selling such items. Rusty Wallrock explains what these are

Dear Rusty, Charlie, David and WI ladies, We appreciate you showing and discussing these beautiful antiques. I like the fee idea for resellers. What a nice lady for letting us see them!!

Creating and fostering a desire for these objects will only continue the uptick in the illegal trade.

No problem, the Netherlands dont make a problem of it.
Only new Ivory is forbidden to sell and imported

Persian ivory miniatures - two problems for me right off. One - can't sell ivory where I am in the USA, at all. Second - Persian stuff can't be sold on line here; it gets yanked and did even 10 years ago. Anything Iranian is a no-go. Locally, there's no market for Iranian-made goods, sad to say. That said, I found a narrow ivory bangle in a charity shop today of the late 70s sort with the gold wire wrapped around. Bought it for the weight of the gold, i.e. not much.

i thought items done before 1947 could be sold, i know the 10% of the item but even with more of it i really think they could go for sale ???

I bought some Ivory Dominoes a few years ago, then realised it wasn't a good idea, poor Elephants.Although very old Ivory should be able to be sold off .Very Interesting and Informative David thank you.

So you just put it in a bigger frame then the ivory is less than 10%?

If they're pre 1947 you can sell them
