Canon EOS M100 Bad and Good Aspects | Low Cost APS-C Mirrorless ILC

I don't talk much about the M100 that much because the M50 cameras I also use tend to be the ones with special features, at least compared to the M100. It's lacking a lot in comparison, but is still a solid camera with a few features that I'd consider better than the M50 (such as the memory card slot location). In this video I talk about my experience with the camera thus far starting with the bad and then talking about the good. It's not a comprehensive list by any means, but I try to point out a few unique aspects I've run into. The camera is a decent amount smaller than the M50, which allows me to use it in some situations I can't do as easily with the M50 (this is usually the case with the EF-M 22mm f/2 lens like fitting the combo into a cargo pants pocket).

i just purchased the M100. I'm really enjoying it so far. A bit tough to find buried menu items, but I'm learning. I'm 75, and live on SS. I really wanted the M200. My friends think I'm crazy for this purchase of my Lumix bridge camera, but I find it fun. Takes me back to the old film days.

Good commentary on the M100! I know a lot of reviewers look down on the M100 and delegate it as a 'step up from a smartphone' which is totally not true. Other than it doesn't shoot in 4k and can only go up to 60fps, I don't see a lot of cons. In the hands of a capable photographer/videographer this camera is a Filmmaking beast. I see many m100s wasted on "Hey wassup isho' boi" type fake-energy vloggers who might as well use a potato as a cam. Dual auto focus, fairly big sensor, flip up screen, light body, relatively extensive manual controls (in-screen) for less than $500? I'm beginning to think people who say that the m100 is just an 'okay camera' don't know cameras at all and should stick to webcams to make their unoriginal "hey y'all' vlogs.
I use this camera to make short silent films on my channel and it doesn't disappoint at all.

This camera is a godsend for when I'm traveling and hiking. The picture quality is pretty damn good and its light weight is quite liberating.

I recently got this camera to make video content. It's really nice but my only problem with it is it doesn't support the use of a remote viewfinder for video. Which kinda sucks because sometimes I don't even see if it's out of focus. :(

My work camera (real estate) is the Canon T6s, I like it a lot. I wanted a small camera with very similar capabilities, the M100 is perfect. The menu is nearly identical to the menu on the T6s, except more limited. I only use the camera in manual mode, if I need flash I use the tiny little flash on the M100 to fire a larger hand-held or stand mounted flash. I shoot everything in raw and edit in LR/PS. For the price, $399, with a pretty good 15/45 lens is a bargain. If you need more the M50 costs $650 and is a much larger camera.

I looked at the M100but held out for the M50. Seems like they finally hit the sweet spot for amateur creators like me with that one.
Agreed the M100 is definitely better than a phone. I tired that at first and just never was happy with the video I could create.

I love this camera because it’s light. I use it to make hiking videos and any weight that can be shaved I’ll happily not carry up a mountain lol. It’s stabilization isn’t the best but it takes great photos along with pretty decent video

Hey Scott, I need to pick up a second cam for my business to sit on a tripod film some performances so I can use my m50 for handheld filming and pictures. Do you think the m100 would compliment my m50 in terms of image quality, dynamic range and colors?

I have the M200, also would agree with others here that the camera is played down, sold as a step up from a smartphone, and concentrations lie on what is seems to lack... I've not had this experience. I also own a 6D and am a student of photography in university. This is one of the best cameras I've ever owned. Love it so much. Sometimes less is more.
