Meta HDMI Link + ROG Ally = ...

Since the new Meta Link app allows us to use the Quest 3 like an external monitor, this opens up a world of possibilities! Not least of which, a sub-genre of Spatial Computing which I like to call... Spatial Gaming!

I really appreciated this video. I’m shocked using the quest as a wired monitor wasn’t higher on their list of priorities. Good job

Virtual Desktop still edges this option out for me. With a 5Ghz router, you can wirelessly display your desktop with unreal resolution up to 120fps. The small lag you feel when using HDMI link I'd say is maybe doubled when using Virtual Desktop, but I still think it's negligible in most cases. Excellent video! I just got the new iPhone 16 Pro and it finally has video out over usb C. This is another great way to walk around with a great video signal for the Link. I'm hoping Meta let's other apps use the HDMI link; Bigscreen or Virtual Desktop could have some amazing implementations.

@11:40 Oh Man, there was soooo much foreshadowing in this section of your video. You nailed it.

At home I used Moonlight on the quest 3. Works perfectly. PC Ethernet and controller Bluetooth or 2.4 directly to the PC

I bought a Metaquest 3s yesterday with an adapter just to play on my Xbox & PS5 games on 100-inch monitor & absolutely love it, I'm sure you could find stuff not perfect with it but wow I love it!

This opens up very cool possibilities when paired with travel mode!

I did special computing with my Playstation 2 with a HDMI converter - worked great and very surreal!

I am tempted to pick up the one cable solution. This is a really neat setup. I tried the NReal, but never really enjoyed it because you had to move the eyes around like you said. I also wear glasses and am nearsighted so it doesn't work well with me without lenses.

Great video showing the different options. I must say I like the Ugreen all in one most and have now ordered that via your link.

Great video! The Puppis S1 is also a fantastic affordable option for latency-free high-resolution streaming with the Meta Quest series of devices.

On a windows handheld you can just install the meta link app or virtual desktop and stream the desktop to VR via a usb-c cable or WLAN without any additional hardware.

This is when those usb c to hdmi cables i bought years ago come in handy!

If you get XReal Air 2 Ultras, and the regular BEAM device, you can keep the image locked in place and even walk away from it and come back it'll stay where you locked it. And you can charge both the BEAM and your device (ROG) with a splitter that passes DisplayPort ALT and power. 330" simulated screen size close or far away that stays there whether you go to the bathroom or not, and can use high resolution and refresh.

Or i skip the wires and use Virtual Desktop to do similar.

Can you just use 1 display port usb-c cable?

It would be interesting to try Sunshine/Moonlight by way of contrast.

I use Rokid Max 1200p/120Hz/16:10 AR glasses as a straightforward HMD for all my handhelds. No muss, fuss. Infinitely better than Xreal.

been playing flatscreen games on big screens via virtual desktop already, i'd love it if the HDMI App was reliable but in my experience (maybe its my capture card or the USB A to USB C cable) i get very low frame rate compared to VD which is why for now i stick to not using HDMI although i'd prefer it.
If going for tethered HDMI though, i'd prefer a solution that charges the quest and (if handheld device is on the other side) the mobile device (obviously not needed on tower pc) will look into that in the near future for sure but playing remotely tetherless is already awesome as well.

If you have an internet connection then virtual desktop is by far the best option for this, I played through all of fallout4 through the quest while laying in bed

Thank you for the video.
I never knew that meta quest could be used as external monitor.
