So, the new consoles can output up to 120 Hz. This can be set manually on the Xbox Series X, but not so much on the PS5. However, many monitors that support higher refresh rates only support those refresh rates on the DisplayPort inputs, such as my Samsung Odyssey G9, and have a cap of 60 Hz on the HDMI input. The adapter in this video allows you to connect your HDMI output from your console to a DisplayPort input on your monitor, allowing you to take full advantage of your monitor refresh rates. DocValentino, thanks for the video. I would like to add that what you're looking for is an "HDMI to DisplayPort" adapter. Cords and adapters are not always bi-directional, so don't pick 'DisplayPort to HDMI'. Next watch for old DisplayPort 1.2 adapters as they will give you issues. Instead look for 1.4 or better yet 2.0. The G9 only needs a DP 1.4 but 2.0 is backwards compatible. Last, I've contacted both Microsoft and Samsung to confirm and they were both useless. YouTube and Reddit, FTW.

i picked up the adapter after having no luck with the adapter i bought from best buy. after a bit of fiddling i was able to get my dell u2711 to accept a display port signal from the xbox one x. thanks for the great tip!

Is there any input delay from the adapter? And it is capable of 120hz right even though it says 60hz on Amazon

For anyone wondering I think this will only work if you have either a PC to switch the refresh rate or if the monitor OS will allow you to do it. You can see in the video his OS allows him to change the the refresh rate directly on his monitor. If you can’t do one of those two things your series X/S and or PS5 won’t auto switch. You have to manually change it to 120+

This video gave some hope in a chaotic situation where I had no idea why my screen is only outputting 60hz (even tho the manual says it can recieve 1440p144hz via hdmi). I've ordered the adapter and I hope it will work. Cheers!
