I use sulfur for ammonia leak detection at work. We put a small amount of sulfur powder on the tip of a wooden stick and ignite the powder. Holding this close to an ammonia leak will make the hot fumes from the sulfur visible as white smoke. It would be very interesting having this reaction demonstrated and explained.

Ironically I'm on the toilet watching this... it adds a new dimension to the video.

Your videos are absorbing. I like your way of giving out the information. Only facts and no messing around. The video shots and editing absolutely perfect. This channel should have millions of subscribers. My first language is also Russian, and when we speak too fast, the native English speakers sometimes get a little confused. (I live in the UK and talking to people is a part of my job, and sometimes I get some priceless reactions.) Can't blame the people as the pronunciation of a person with a heavy Russian accent can be a tricky to understand. I have a very similar hobby to yours, I make youtube videos about chemistry. To improve my pronunciation for my videos, I speak really slowly while recording my voice, and then speed it up in audacity. It seems to work well, and few people who know me, pointed that they have no problems understanding my videos, but in real life conversation I am a "pain in the ass." :)
In any case, this method won't work when having a real life conversation. I've tried :D

I especially love sulfur's reaction with sodium. It the result is a large flame spewing drops of burning liquid sodium and sulfur. In my research, I've been using t-butyl thiol. It smells like a dumpster fire mixed with garlic and rotten eggs. Despite using good fume hoods, the entire building knows every time I open that vial. The intermediates I've been making are SF4, S-R and SH substituted aromatics. They don't smell nice either, they have very bitter or pungent odors, rather difficult to describe as they are so unique.

Sulfur the SMELLIEST Element ON EARTH!

Selenium: "Hold my beer..."

Tellurium: "Not so fast, son."

Sulfur compounds aren't nearly as smelly as those of Tellurium or Selenium.

I am a formulations chemist for an industrial coatings company.

When I run into particular issues, such as your treatise on sulphur, it helps me a great deal to narrow down certain properties I need at certain times in product development.

Sincere thanks for your channel.

I used to make fireworks with zunc and sulphur powder. The teacher caught me one day and banned me from the lab in school.

Sulfur only has a smell when reacted with other elements. Pure sulfur does not smell like much iirc.
