”Don’t Go Into The Projects”.. Harlem & The Bronx 🇺🇸

Harlem and the South Bronx are notorious New York neighbourhoods with different yet notorious past and present reputations. Harlem, once reputed as a dangerous area synonymous with crime and gang activity, has now undergone much gentrification. South Bronx, particularly the area of Mott Haven which I visit in the video, is still identified as an area of high crime and street gang influence to this day. Both Harlem and the South Bronx are areas heavily influenced by hip hop culture, art, fashion and food. I had visited Harlem some 15 years previously, but never South Bronx. As always, I was interested to chat to the locals I encountered in these neighbourhoods, walk the streets, eat the food and make up my own mind about life there.

The next day, thanksgiving 2024, I wandered around lower Manhattan in search of a famous cheeseburger.. but on the way made a slightly strange new homeless friend and sought him out a thanksgiving treat.

It was nice to talk to Bobby. He probably hasn’t had a real conversation with someone in a long time. I think you made his day better ❤

As you can see, contrary to popular opinion, New Yorkers are some of the friendliest and down to Earth folks around.

Bobby is a real Christian. On the streets 20 years, and still kind. I'm praying for him.

Youtube recommended your channel and this is the first video I'm watching. Your personality and style of vlogging reminds me of Bald and Bankrupt. You have that same kind of energy, coming up to all sorts of people and striking up conversations. Enjoying the video and glad that you gave Bobby your time and a warm meal. Just subbed.

P.S. I totally agree about the heating. I live in Brooklyn. I've been here most of my life, and the heating is wonderful in that it keeps the freezing cold out, but sometimes it can get too hot. We also sometimes have to open the window and turn on the AC, even though the AC doesn't really work well when it's cold out. Technically, these radiators have knobs that you can turn to turn them off, but they don't always fully work, and can be hard to reach when they're behind furniture.

I love how the common stereotype of New Yorkers being rude is mostly false, because I know a lot of the Harlem folks you encountered are locals and they were far from rude or snobby

I’m from Miami, and most of the New Yorkers I’ve met are cool and down-to-earth

Much love, Wendall

Godspeed 💪🏽💯✊🏽
