Chapter 63 - Flow Net in Anisotropic Soil

To analyse the multi-dimensional flow of water inside the soil and to obtain solutions to the engineering problems such as to estimate the quantity of water percolating via seepage through the soil under a dam, we make use of a concept called Flow net. A flow net is a graphical representation of how the hydraulic energy is dissipated as water flows through a pervious medium.

We transform the anisotropic soil medium, medium which has different properties in different directions, by scale transformation to obtain isotropic medium, which has similar properties in different directions and for which the Laplace equation is valid. We do so as to construct the flow net and find solutions to our engineering problems in anisotropic soil.

I think there is an error at 5:50. x_t should be defined as \sqrt(k_z /k_x). Then, when you partial differentiate x_t with respect to x you have \frac{\partial x_t}{\partial x} = \sqrt(k_z /k_x). Moving the denominator on the LHS to the right, you have the result we want: \partial x_t = \sqrt(k_z /k_x) \partial x.

First i think soil mechanics is boring subject
After copying your whole notes and watching your videos

Now soil mechanics become my favorite subject. . 🤗🤗
Thank you sooo much.
It means alot for me
Blesss alwaz. . .

And please further continue soil mecchanics topics like
1. Compressibility & consolidation
2. Shear strength
3. Stability of slopes
4. Earth pressures & retaning walls
5. Foundations.
6. Soil Exploration
