yes, citizenship should be selective and restrictive, its not right but privilege. after 15yrs living in UK and passing all tests and previously having( now defunct) permanent residency ive been very surprised my citizenship process didnt involve any actual interview with human to assess me as a candidate and my reasons for getting it.
it was mere bureaucratic evaluation of documents and proofs and paying money to private company that privatised this formerly govt service and felt to me it did cheapen and devaluate the whole concept. Citizenship should mean something and hold some value beyond mere proof of having banking account and legal employment for past decade.
