This is a perfect show of how culture matters more than skin colour.

As black Americans we need to realize weโ€™re a different people now. weโ€™ve been out of Africa for centuries. Every nation once originated in Africa but once they migrated out for long enough, they became a different people. We should love and honor our origins but be wise enough to realize we must carve our own path.

Ladies, you were not 'failing to connect' with African culture. You were experiencing it. The culture YOU expected is most likely to be found in Wakanda.

Odd Black Americans believe Africa is the same culture, etc. as America.

Love is not in color of skin it's content of character. Just because your people might have the same skin does not mean they are good.

This is very very very sad to hear. The white Europeans are welcomed with open arms.

I am a black American woman who has traveled extensively world -wide, in Africa with and without a group or a husband/boyfriend and with and without white friends. I can only share my experience in Africa-when I traveled to Senegal with a native, my experience was amazing, same in South Africa, but outside of that I was scammed, harassed, taken advantage of (not sexually)and felt very unsafe. My experience in 4 Caribbean islands was the complete opposite. I was greeted with love, and kindness-like a family member, invited into locals homes for meals, dancing and oral history of the islands and her people. Black Americans, spend your money and expatriate where you are celebrated, treated with acceptance and kindness and can build a community and home. Turn towards the Caribbean friends.

Iโ€™ve been going in and out of the continent for nearly 20 years. From what Iโ€™ve seen they generally treat White Americans better than Black Americans.

As an American of African decent I have embraced that I am indeed AMERICAN. I want to visit Africa but I have no dreams of moving over there or anything bc I am far removed from Africa.

They think they can connect with people just based on the skin if it you imagine trying to connect with someone just because they have the same eye or hair color????

Itโ€™s like an Irish American going to Serbia and expecting to be embraced as a fellow European. Not how it works.

People don't realize how good they have it in America.

I had a coworker whose wife was from Cameroon. She flew home for Christmas just before the pandemic โ€œheated up, โ€ and in order to come back, she had to have a recent negative Covid test in order to board a plane. Long story short, it took three months and more than a thousand dollars to get her out. She was getting scammed by airline employees, immigration officials and even family members (she was the one with the โ€œrichโ€ American husband). Worst of all, they *knew* they were being hustled in real time but had to go along with itโ€ฆ

This was a very sweet video with positive intent. I'm enough Italian to call myself Italian American. But if I went to Italy, while I might have a blast, I think I'd really find out how American I was, NOT how Italian I was. I expect this to be the case with African Americans as well. As Americans, we typically see ourselves based on our experience of how other Americans see us. Hopefully the trip brings you a deeper understanding of being American; good, bad, whatever.

I am a 64 year old, half Puerto Rican, my mother spoke Spanish, never taught her daughters any of the language, she said she needed it for her and her sisters to talk without any of the kids understanding...what she didn't know was, it kept us from learning the culture, and now none of us speak Spanish, except those who took classes...my point is, little sisters...we are Americans, we are family...we've all come from somewhere...but This Is Us...We Are Americans, and I love you all. YAH BLESS YOU ALL โค

To the lady that was treated bad at the airport, don't feel bad. I went to my own country and was treated the same at the airport just because I live abroad. It has nothing to do with you being foreign. I think it's the corruption these countries are experiencing. It makes people ugly to others. Don't let it discourage you.

I understand the frustration. I was blessed to meet a Ghanaian young man who picked me and my family from the airport. Although he was born in Ghana, he grew up in the US but returned to Ghana five years ago. He wanted to start a business in tourism, so he asked me if we wanted him to be our driver. We asked about the price. I researched the prices of private drivers. The prices were starting at $125 per day. He asked, much less for the three of us. We also agreed to buy gas, which was around $10 to $15 per day. From the first day, he also became our bodyguard ๐Ÿ˜Š. He negotiated all of the prices, even when I was willing to pay.
I am returning next week and may look at staying long-term, primarily because of age and health issues.
