Bart is one of the best presenters i've ever seen. Bravo to him and the writer for these science garage videos. I know most everything presented on Science Garage but I watch them all anyway for Bart. Killer stuff man!

I have powerstop carbon-ceramic pads and they are awesome performers and last a lot longer than I'd expect a high-performance brake pad to. Plus, they're only about $50 a set. Really cool to see how far technology has advanced and trickled down to the consumer.

While this video is very informative, there is one false fact stated that needs to be cleared up. Brake pads and brake shoes are not the same thing. Brake pads are part of a disc brake system. Brake shoes are part of a drum brake system. What is the difference?
Well, disc brakes involve a disc. Other wise known as a rotor. And they work by having the caliper piston press against the pads, which presses the pads into the rotor forcing it to slow down. It looks like this (>>|<<)
The () are the calipers
The <>are the pads
The | is the rotor

Brake shoes however do not do that. In fact, they do the opposite. They go outwards when the brakes are applied, because, unlike disc brakes, they don't have a rotor, they have a drum. The shoes press against the drum in order to slow it down. It looks like this.
(<<>>)
The () are the drum
<> are the shoes.

Brake pads are not sometimes called brake shoes. Brake pads fit in the palm of your hand, usually, unless you have those big racing brake pads. Brake shoes are bigger than your head.

great scripting characterization and execution. really enjoyed the off camera gag. oh yeah, excellent info as usual. would've been even more cool if you could've given us some macro shots on the cross sections of the pads though. Really dig the whole "lab" vibe guys.
