Today I discuss the inconsistent representation of Springtrap/William Afton throughout the FNAF franchise, and how it has affected his reputation as a character.

I agree that they took "I always come back" *way* too seriously. Honestly, Steel Wool/Scott's biggest fuckup after not letting Afton stay dead was not making Vanny a successor. She was just a brainwashed/possessed minion, not an actual new villain. They could've easily just had her be some crazed serial killer fangirl or copycat killer and continue the franchise with just her while still paying homage to Afton but no.

They had Vanny, who literally was popular as a villain by just trailers alone.
Could have made her the main bad.
Then they wimped out of it.

I think Vanny being a new host that continues doing what Springtrap was doing would still qualify as "I always come back" without him literally coming back.

What I really like about Glitchtrap is the way he moves. I think his strange movements are the biggest factor in what makes him creepy. He's clearly trying to appear friendly, but he's trying WAY too hard. You can just see the intent behind that wave, it's not a casual friendly wave, there's clear, malicious intentions behind it. He is desperately trying to get your attention, and gain your trust. It may just be me, but it's like I can feel the desperation and violent thoughts through his actions.

Not only that, but the way he's standing in that doorway, it's like he's hiding. He's trying to get the player's attention, but avoiding everyone else's.

Like we're a child.

And he's trying to lure us away from the crowd.

I like how you explained the uncanny valley thing in 3rd fnaf.
Springtrap's jumpscare was never sudden or rapid. You could see him moving behind the tablet and smoothly walk up to you instead of jumping and biting like other animatronics do. Logically it would make his jumpscare less scary, but it did the opposite for me because when I didn't know that there's a person inside yet I was really weirded out like WHY DO YOU MOVE LIKE A LIVING HUMAN PERSON?? WHY IS THAT THING SO INTELLIGENT? WHY DOES IT LOOK AT ME WITH THOSE KNOWING EYES??? And when you do find out his origins it's no less unsettling. While the other animatronics are scary, but you know they are still posessed by the souls of children, Spring Bonnie is controlled by the spirit of a murderer.

Honestly I just wish they kept the massive RNG part of springtrap, that's what made FNaF 3's springtrap so hard. You could never really learn him just from casually playing the game, since he felt so inconsistent. He didn't always go to where you played the audio track, he felt human in a way. When he was brought back? He felt like a robot, like the other animatronics. I wish he was used like he was in the original game he was in.

I will forever cherish fnaf 3 springtrap as being one of if not my favourite and complex design scott has ever made. The mix of human innards being a substitute for robotic wires and how the idea is conveyed that Afton has fused with the suit and then later uncovering how he got in there through the mini games. Everything about fnaf 3 springtrap was crafted incredibly well.

It’s sad how the entire fandom went from fearing this crusty grandpa to kicking him in his shins and throwing him down the Grand Canyon with no sense of terror at all

Can you imagine traveling back in time to when Scott had just released the first video game installment of _Five Nights at Freddy's, _ and going on to explain all of the known, confirmed lore of _FNaF_ to him? His mind would be absolutely blown.

Design wise, Burntrap is what Scraptrap should have looked like

Burntrap was just a way to shoehorn Afton into the story of security breach and it shows. His design is too similar to springtrap and he’s only in one of the endings so he feels like an afterthought to remind you it’s a fnaf game

Let’s be honest. William will most likely be in the Ruin DLC. I would actually be surprised if he didn’t come back. They’ve gone too far to kill him off now, and if they did, it would probably be underwhelming. Nothing can beat the Henry speech in my mind.

I get it’s hard to make a scary character scary and older and older every game, but man, he just looks more and more funny every game 🤣

The easiest way to disprove that Scraptrap was "a new suit" is the fact that were was only 1 Fredbears and the only Spring Bonnie suit that ever existed is attached to ol' Willy's corpse. Burntrap's design is what Scraptrap should have looked like.

I remember the shock I felt when it was discovered in FNAF3 that Springtrap was actually the purple guy/the killer (this was before all the lore and his name was revealed) and how this worn out, decayed animatronic for FNAF3 became an even more sinister villain. This was the man. The actual killer who helped kickstart the events in FNAF. Those were the days...

The moment burntrap came on screen in sb I stopped taking him seriously. Not even glitchtrap could push me but burntrap really just sent this series off the deep end and now it's hard to take seriously

One thing I enjoy about Help Wanted's Springtrap is that the eyes are bloodshot. Really makes him look more dead, which makes him more unsettling imo

Springtrap is a VERY important character in FNaF, but sadly, he’s still a meme

I think why Springtrap is so uncannily unique is because he's possessed by pretty much the ceo of the establishment.

The original cast, as well as mangle, the puppet and circus baby are all possessed by children, who likely were killed as soon as they were lured, making them wander almost aimlessly. However, Afton who's piloting springtrap knows the place like the back of his hand, which gives him extensive knowledge of how to flank the player when they're not looking.
Not only that but he KNOWS it's you, and not another animatronic like in Fnaf 2, because this is all his doing.
It's such a genious way of eliminating any kind of security the player has because were essentially operating on his turf.
