I have been fortunate enough to generally experience very mild menstrual cramps but for some of the amazing women in my life; they experience such intense pain and cramping that they cannot even get out of bed; not able to do their work or daily chores.

I recently experienced that pain. I could not function, even with pain medication I could not move for a couple of days.
I learned a lot while going through that.
1. I am so grateful that I did not have to experience this pain every month. To the women who do- you are amazing and incredibly strong.
2. I was frustrated and annoyed that I had to slow down and rest. I had things to do, places to be, yoga classes to teach.
I realized in this moment that I was not being kind to my body. I was not listening to what my body needed at that moment. It needed to slow down and with love and compassion take care of my body. My body does incredible things for everyday and for those days it needed me to take care of it. Instead of getting frustrated and annoyed with my bodies inability to move without pain I decided to take care of it.
I got up, grabbed my yoga props and stepped onto my yoga mat. I let my body lead me, listened with compassion and kindness and moved very, very slowly into these yoga poses. It felt so good.
