The way she asks him to come over that night, I would've switched sides in a heartbeat if I were him.

That's why his hat is so big, it's full of secrets.

This is why I love their song together, it’s filled with so much irony, not just in the moment but looking forward as well. He talks a big game about how naive and innocent she is (meanwhile we can see from the way she acts that she’s a little less innocent than he’d like to believe and takes advantage of his own naivety about her) and talks about being older and wiser and how he’ll guide her to make good decisions but he was just a kid himself and didn’t know what he was doing. ultimately he needed more guiding than she did and he got it from the wrong people.

Rolf was hilarious when he said "We make it our business to know everything about everyone"

I was so confused by this scene when I was little.

“We make it our business to know everything about everybody” Sadly what Rolfe said was how Jews were captured and taken to death camps like Auchenwitz. And what is more this film and The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas takes place during the Holocaust. And even though this film was made before the Boy in the Striped Pyjamas it could be possible Rolfe knew both Bruno’s father and Kotler.

I absolutely love the character of Rolf. He’s really interesting to me. It might just be the guy who played him but he played it perfectly! He’s a character you could have a good conversation about. Did he ever love Leisel? Did he really want to be a Nazi or was he threatened just like Von Trapp but he felt like he couldn’t run and he wasn’t willing to risk his family. Why was he so offended when he was told he would never be one of them? Did the Nazis basically call him weak in training? So many questions and something an actor would have a lot of fun exploring. He’s now on my bucket list although I’m a woman in her late 20s. 😹

Rolfe was killed. This is just a shell of what is left of him. This is so sad.

I thought for sure he would have let the family have a head start or sneak off with them.

Uh oh! The plot just thickened. I feel bad for Lisel. But this scene is not a reason why I come back to this beautiful film once in a blue moon.
