This was a light hearted duet between two good friends. It was unbelievably popular because it's so pop-y

You will both love Elton & George Michael "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me". Their voices are so perfect together.

I was 8-years-old when this song came out, and I remember it being one of my favorite songs as an elementary school kid. 🙂 It's a terrific little piece of A.M. radio pop ear candy.

Kiki Dee was the first artist Elton John signed when he started his own record label. She was a street/club singer. He heard her and was so impressed with her talent, he signed her. This song was him lending his name to her in order to launch her career. Very generous move on his part.

Yeah, this song and PHILADELPHIA FREEDOM with Kiki Dee and Elton were huge hits in 1976 - US Bicentennial Year.

To many of us old school Elton fans this song was perceived as merely a trifle. But over the years it has grown on me and Kiki can really sing. I’m now a fan.

This is Elton at his most frothy and poppy. It's bubblegum, but it's so smile-inducing, you can't help but love it.

This was played everywhere back in the mid 70's. Takes me back to my childhood.

Jay & Amber, you'll love Elton's "Philadelphia Freedom", "Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding", and "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me"!!!!

Love Kiki Dee. "Music in Me" is one of her best known. She was on Elton's label early on.

When this song came out (1976) there was no MTV, but thank God that there was Don Kirshner's Rock Concert, for which music videos like this were created. I used to watch Burt Sugarman's Midnight Special, until Saturday Night Live actually pushed Burt's show to midnight (it used to come on at 10:30). These two shows gave rock fans a chance to see rock stars (I couldn't afford rock concerts until I was an adult).

A staple on 70s AM radio. How was Kiki not bigger or more popular? The Woman can sing.

I've heard that originally Elton wanted Dusty Springfield to sing this song with him but the mid-70s were a dark period for Dusty and she just wasn't able to do it. She did do a lot of background vocals on Elton's albums under the pseudonym, Gladys Bangs, however during this time. Kiki sang backup for Dusty in the 60s as well. I loved this song as a kid!

Some people dismiss this as just a pop trifle but it is a great song. As has been said this was one of the Top Songs of 1976. I was in 8th grade and this is the first song that I connected with Elton John. It will always be a great song.

This is arguably the most 70's song ever created. (#1 in 1976)
If you want one song to represent the decade, this works really well.
Happy, "groovy" melody, lyrics about love and light, this was before disco, but leads you where the culture is heading, a good blend of the band feel of the early 70's transitioning to the dance feel of Disco

Elton’s “Funeral For A Friend/ Love Lies Bleeding”. Maybe the name throws you off. I promise it’s the Elton song you’ve been waiting for!
