Gripen E - but spiritually speaking that economic reality is how we got the last USAF light weight fighter that nobody wanted - the F-16

Still waiting for part 2. Give us the answer.

Its just the optionally manned Northrop Model 437. No need to get too excited.

My guess: The new "lightweight fighter" will be a semi-autonomous drone whose payload will be the drone operator in the cockpit, whose job will be controlling multiple penetrating combat drones from a stand-off distance using line-of-sight datalinks.

How can they overcome hardware limitations during update?

My question is: is the B-21 the next fighter? Now we're looking at exclusively BVR, B-21 has range and payload. Could carry 50 AMRAAM AIM-120C 2500 miles. Cost is $500M, same as say 7 F-35's or 3 F-22's, but that's only because of low production runs. Let's build 600 B-21's, which will cut the price in half.

Chances are that they can modify the T-7 Redhawk into the Light Fighter. Or at least use components like how the T-38 was used as the basis for the F-5.

Imagine that. I was going to say, that it sounds exactly like Gripen E. but everybody beat me to it. Unless there is something that already exists the we don’t know about. Based on a manned version of the “loyal wingman” concept?

Sounds like the Gripen E. Sound also like the KAI KF21 by Lockheed Martin, Textron Air Land Scoprian....

Not, in the sense that a concept is still just an idea, not a tangible thing.
Still, I would bet on the fact it will be finalized well before the F-35 would became something reliable.
And in such a case the USA would adopt them and left their former "development partner" stranded.

We did this in 1969, but then, the music was better.

The bird of prey. SR-72 might have quietly snuck into production.

The last time the Yanks bought a foreign combat aircraft design was in the 1950s, the English Electric Canberra: licence-built by Martin😁!

Software based systems are great! Just download more missiles, radar, and RGB for speed hacks.
