Tostones - double fried green plantains - a Cuban favorite! This side dish is at the heart of Cuban Cuisine and now you can make it at home after learning how to from Abuela herself in this step-by-step guide !

📝 Instructions:

1. Peel the green plantain. Under running water, use a knife to cut both ends off the plantain and then perforate multiple lines through the skin from top to bottom. Use the knife or your hands to peel the skin back from the plantain.

2. Cut the plantain into 1.5 inch rounds.

3. (This step is NOT necessary) If you will not be frying the plantains immediately after peeling them, fill a bowl with water and leave them in there soaking to avoid them turning brown. Drain the water before frying.

4. Heat up oil in a fryer or deep saucepan and put the plantain rounds to fry until they are golden brown. Remove them from the fryer.

5. Use the plantain smasher to flatten the plantains. If you don't have one, you can use to plates to flatten the plantains.

6. Fry the flattened plantains again. When they are golden brown, they are ready. Remove them from the fryer.

7. Put salt on the tostones.

9. Enjoy!

1. Pela los plátanos. Para pelar los plátanos, ponlos bajo agua y use un cuchillo para cortar los puntos y después ralla el plátano desde una punta a la otra. Use el cuchillo o sus manos para pelar la piel.

2. Corta el platano en pedazos a la medida de 1.5 pulgadas (más o menos).

5. Use la tostonera para aplastar los platanos.

6. Freír los plátanos aplastados una vez más (este segundo paso de freír es necesario). Cuando los plátanos se ven dorados, están listos.

7. Agregale sal a los tostones.

I loved this recepie. I did a little fusion with Mexican and Cuban and made a Guacamole as a dip for the tostones. It was good! Hey, may I suggest a Sandwich Cubano recipe?
