He talks about the original plan of the band not releasing a statement about his departure and why he felt he had to speak up when the promo photos without him were released.

I'm a long time Deftones fan and think they did him dirty. He was seen as a member and treated like one to the point of contributing to the albums. It's not right.

I was so bummed out with the absence of Sergio. Perfect fit for the tones but I'm glad it was clarified. All said, you can't stop a great, kind human being from moving forward and that's what he is doing. Love you Sergio.

Once you get past like year 3 of being the fill-in bassist, how do you not make that official? There has to be more to this story, but it really doesn't matter now. It was a good era for Deftones. Hopefully they address this in the future.

Just finding out about this sorry im late, as i saw deftones a few days ago and asked myself where's sergio. Loved his energy from a previous show in 2015 indeed contributed a major sound to his years of involvement.

When this all went down I was pretty upset about it and still am to this day. Haven't listened to any of their music don't drink their beer anymore and don't wear their shirts. I feel slapped in the face as a fan. I've really had trouble figuring how they didn't see him as a member. I mean the guy gave more interviews on behalf of the band while the band was sitting behind him on several occasions. He's also included at the Forefront of most of their photographs that get taken. When it all comes down to it it's really allowed me to appreciate just how great of a musician this man is and appreciate quicksand even more

Deftones version 2.0 is incredible. Sergio was an amazing addition. I am not really vibing with this new iteration. Sergio's absence is greatly felt.

I dont think they made it clear enough with sergio that he was always going to be a session player. It does leave a bitter taste because.. dude has been with them since 2009, yikes. But its their band, they decide whos going to be official. You have to respect that despite how they do business, theyre not perfect. And im not trying to say bassists are not essential but they can be recorded by the guitarist too or even chino himself since he can play the guitar too or anyone in the band that knows basic chords really.
