Problem: invasive carp
Solution: eat the damn carp

Crabs are aquatic spiders that eat garbage and cost $20 a pound and people are acting like they're too good for carp.

In Poland, we consider carp a delicacy. We always cook it for Christmas, it's important enough to be our version of the Christmas turkey.

I used to know an older gentleman who, after he retired, bought a home on the Mississippi with a little pier in the back yard. He absolutely LOVED to fish, it was his favorite activity.
He'd be out there fishing during the nicer months of the year, from dawn till dark, every day. He'd catch a few for the grill but 99% of his daily catch was carp.
He'd pull em up, bonk em dead with a club, and put em in a big drum. Then he'd give the drums to his neighbors and friends for trap-line bait, garden fertilizer, and other misc uses like chicken feed.
He did that for years and never seemed to get bored of it. He must've pulled thousands of carp out of the river and he didn't seem to care that it didn't really make any dent in the invasive population. He just saw them as an opportunity to try to help clean up the river a bit while getting to do his favorite activity.
He was a wonderful guy, I miss him a lot.

I will always respect poor people for making bomb ass meals out of food snobs turn their noses up at. One of the tastiest meals i've ever had was this amazing pho from a Vietnamese spot. One of the meats in it was tripe, essentially cow stomach lining. Tripe has a history of being peasant food. It was delicious, amazing texture. There's no such thing as peasant food if you have a good cook. Food classism is so weird

If you train the carp for long enough it’ll turn into a Gyarados

I’m an Eskimo. I grew up in the village in Alaska. We have a fish called Sheefish. It is a whitefish and has a head similar to a carp. I recently saw a Facebook video from my hometown that made it to ladbible and got shared globally. The video showed a woman that my family knows catching herring, which is a great delicacy. Yet however, there were many people insulting the water quality, the fish, the people that live in Kotzebue, and just being trashy people in general. It really hurt, because I know the water is clean, yet it has a brownish coloring because of the sandy soil at the bottom, and also knowing the people are genuinely good people in that town, and also knowing the fish are really good to eat. In my opinion, the only trash fish are the scraps that cannot be fed to the dogs and have to be thrown away after preparing the fish for dinner. It’s just, that there are people who lower their integrity and say mean things about anyone and everyone simply because they were picky eaters growing up, and apparently never learned how to be nice to other people from a different culture.

As an American, I like them, some people are just too picky

Here is a recipe for making classic croissants:

Ingredients:

4 cups (500g) all-purpose flour

1/4 cup (50g) sugar

2 tsp (10g) salt

1 tbsp (10g) active dry yeast

1 cup (240ml) warm milk

1/4 cup (60ml) warm water

1 tbsp (15ml) unsalted butter, melted

1 1/2 cups (340g) unsalted butter, chilled and cut into slices

1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the dough:

In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it sit for about 10 minutes until foamy.

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt.

Add the warm milk, melted butter, and yeast mixture into the dry ingredients. Stir until the dough begins to form.

Knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover it with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

2. Laminate the butter:

Place the chilled butter slices between two sheets of parchment paper and pound them into a 6x6 inch square.

Roll out the dough into a 10x10 inch square. Place the butter block in the center of the dough.

Fold the dough edges over the butter like an envelope. Roll it out into a rectangle, about 8x20 inches.

Fold the rectangle into thirds like a letter. Wrap it in plastic and refrigerate for 30 minutes. Repeat this process (rolling, folding, and chilling) three times in total.

3. Shape the croissants:

After the final chill, roll the dough out into a large rectangle, about 8x24 inches, and 1/4 inch thick.

Cut the dough into triangles (roughly 4 inches wide at the base and 8 inches tall).

Roll each triangle from the base towards the tip to form a croissant shape. Place them on a lined baking sheet with the tip tucked underneath.

Cover the croissants and let them rise for 1-2 hours until puffy.

4. Bake the croissants:

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

Beat the egg and brush the tops of the croissants with the egg wash.

Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and flaky.

5. Serve:

Let the croissants cool slightly before serving.

Enjoy your homemade croissants!

People saying carp is a trash fish would get a heart attack if they came to Poland in Christmas season

I know someone who would catch carp and other trash fish and keep them alive in a big pool in his back yard for a while, only feeling them quality foods and providing extremely clean water. After a couple weeks of fattening up he would catch them again and eat them. The dude swore it made a huge difference

In Chinese culture, steamed carp is extremely popular. However we do realise that they live in dirty waters and would taste “muddy” if not prepared well. Although we have carp, we try not to have it too often and only at decent restaurants that’ll clean the fish well
