The great Afghanistan has never seen peace since it's existence. Many warlords and empires have tried to conquer it but never succeed. It has the potential to be the richest country if the world just gives it a little bit of peace

Confirming all the major Soviet finds in the past, the USGS concluded that “Afghanistan may hold 60 million metric tons of copper, 2, 200 million metric tons of iron ore, 1.4 million tons of rare earth elements such as lanthanum, cerium and neodymium, and lodes of aluminum, gold, silver, zinc, mercury and lithium.[9] For example, “the Khanneshin carbonite deposit in Afghanistan’s Helmand province is valued at $89 billion.”[10] In other words, Afghanistan could become “the Saudi Arabia of lithium, ”[11] an important raw material used in the manufacturing of batteries for laptops and smartphones. Rare earth elements (REEs) have become an essential part of modern technology and are used in cell phones, televisions, computers, lasers, batteries and superconductors. Congressional findings have called REEs critical to U.S. national security. REEs are key to the production of tank navigation systems, missile guidance systems, missile defense components, satellites and military communications systems.

It looks picturesque but unfortunately it's inaccessible due to security reasons and smugglers. I hope Afghanistan will get back on the track one day .

Wow, imagine what difference a small investment in this mine would make. If someone just gave them the money for power tools, so they didn't need explosives, or different explosives, they wouldn't lose 75% of the emeralds.

It will be interesting to see what transpires with the mines over the coming months and years. The Taliban may be in control of the country. And yet Saleh, Mahsood and the Panjshiri fighters continue to control Panjshir. The other observation is seeing exactly why they're called precious minerals. The observation was made that the blasting method causes trauma to the stones.

Countries likeThe DRC and Afghanistan are blessed with natural resources like these are many others. This blessing is also a curse, as the western countries and Russian and China all circle like vultures to get rights and deals to mine etc. They are the only ones who in the end benefit the most, the country or people end up with a tiny percentage of the profit. It benefits other countries to keep them in war or conflicts so they can exploit the resources at a faction of the cost like this. If they don't get the mining rights war suits them as you have witnessed, cheaper emeralds.

The man in the suit talking about national prosperity through mining seems super trustworthy.

It's unfortunate that the miners don't have access to hydraulic mining technology. I think that it would be less traumatic to the stones.
