2023 UPDATE! My Sandisk Extreme SSD is DEAD! Cannot open, disk not recognize. I do not recommend this SSD from SanDisk. I lost some of my files, photos and videos because of this.

I bought 1 Tb one. I just installed Ubuntu on it and I can have my system in any PC or Laptop. Very convenient. It is superfast even in old PC with USB2.

blame the external drive for having slow components in your computer... nice

Thank you for sharing your time and explaining the disc. Craig

The speed of the drive will be limited by the speed of your USB port. If you don't have USB 3.2, it will be throttled.

Hi to everybody! So I bought two SanDisk Extreme Pro Portable SSD 1TB each for editing my photos from them. I have two MBP's, the M1 2020 and 2016 on Intel and a stationary PC.
So when I work from my M1 mbp, those drives are getting really really hot, even when idling... But when I work from my other computers, they are warm, or a bit more than warm.
Do I miss on something or I have a faulty M1 MPB ?
My other external SSD's are fine, but they are SATA, not NVMe (like those SanDisk's are).

For Video editing there's still a benefit (and at the end of my comment: a way around port speed limit with RAID) even though hard drive transfers would be slow if internal is slow you can just go from memory card straight to external which might max at 300 for you and higher for people with usb. also READ speed is relevant and valuable to be fast even when not transferring. If the files are on the fast drive a video editing software's playback, scrolling, exporting and the overall editing experience will all be improved from faster read speeds. so if your computer has a slow internal but decent connections like usbc then you will still have great benefits. also transfers from one external to another will be limited by port connections not internal hard drive. so if your internal is slow there are still lots of benefits and consider instead what is your USB port max speed since that will be your speed you see. One thing I've done as an editor is use multiple external portable SSD's where I format them together as a RAID0 and that means you have to plug in both to see the drive and it is as big as the combined capacity and also speed so with two USB ports working at the same time you will see double the speed so maybe 500-600 with usb3.0. So with slow ports I would consider buying two 1TB instead of one2TB and raid them and you will have double the usable speed for editing. you can even raid small spinner portable drives together and get faster than ssd speeds but riskier if one dies of course so I'd stick with ssd for raid. for testing drive speed I recommend Blackmagic free program for that. Also I use these drives including the 2000 speed v2 and haven't had any issues with them for video editing. they are great drives and I am ordering more. Get all your stuff off spinning drives! they are time bombs and all die after a certain random amount of time!! back up and use ssd is my recommendation.

Using this beast on iPad and Macbook Pro no problem, less than 5 minutes to copy around 50Gb Files. No heat also

Put a computer fan under the scandisk. You can also buy longer cable!

I got the 1T Sandisk extreme today and it has the same issue as you said it’s getting hot 🥵 so easily so, I’m gonna return it.

I use SanDisk Extreme (SATA) and Samsung T7, and I can confirm the SanDisk one does run really hot, Samsung has way better heat deception.

A spoiler alert is when you
"Spoil" the ending by giving it away.
Not eluding to something you're going to reveal.

my SSD SanDisk 1 TB can't be read any longer on my MacBook Air (OS Sonoma 14.5). I also do not recommend buying it until the problem is fixed!

Did u try with usb 3.1 ? Internal need not be nvme . Sata also fine . How much speed you are getting with smartphone ?

@peter7james how is the unit now that it has been 2 years? I have it and the heat is concerning.

I agree. The fact that you are using the older USB adapter is what is killing your transfer speeds.

is the usb c faster than the 3.2 or 3.1 connection ?

Bro u have to use usb 3.2 gen 2 or thunderbolt type c port for that 1k MB/s

you are not supposed to copy files when you test the speed of a drive with windows file which is well known to be slow itself on top you mention your drive arent faster which makes the entire test usless to anyone else
