412 wins to my ears. As much as I hate having a beast of a 412 sitting in my room, it just sounds so good!

The Soyuz made all set ups usable depending on context. Buying that mic right now.

While it's been awhile I used to work at Make n Music in N. Hollywood (w/ Dave Friedman) and managed Bogner in the very early days. Back then we did tons of A/B testing and one that made a huge difference was a 16ohm V30 vs the 8ohm in the 1x12. For whatever reason the 16ohm sounded much more open and more closely resembled a 4x12. I recorded a rather heavy record with a Ecstasy 101b and a 1x12. Both the producer and engineer said there's no way we could get a massive enough tone out of a 1x12. I said mic it up...SM57 slightly off axis...huge! Both of those guys were floored! I have no idea if they have changed the design since then but at the time that thing was a monster on a session. I'll send you some audio if you'd like. Love your channel BTW and yes...I subscribed!😎

So the speaker, the cabinet, the mic, the impedance, and the mic placement all make a difference. There's a lot going on in this vid!

That Soyuz is great! Really brings out the brightness from the speakers. The thing with Cabs is knowing how the sound will actually be in a band mix! All good.

Bogner Cube is such a great cab for home jamming.

I love videos like this. Interestingly, John Petrucci uses two mic'd up Mesa 1x12 cabs for his live rig.

Michael - Could you do a similar comparison where you take one cab (4x12) and compare series vs parallel speaker wiring (one would be 16ohm, the other 4ohm), and/or same speaker in a 1x12 but compare 8ohm vs 16ohm. Would be interesting to hear how impedance changes tone and volume.

Great video!!
I preferred the 2x12" for cleans and closed ones for distorted sound. 2x12" had airiness and I felt the sound surrounded me with headphones and closed ones you could almost point to the source of the sound if that makes any sense but that was a good thing with distortion. With 2x12" one looses the "punch".
Thanks to you and this video, now I'm getting a open back 2x12" to complement my Koch Custom KCC 2x12" HS-RM (Koch VG12-90 speakers based on early V30's but wider freq range). I hate the 70.5lb weight if I need to move it.

The best sounding Bogner I ever heard belonged to my buddy. Crazy son of a bitch modded his Ecstacy 101B with HUGE Mercury Magnetics Power and Output transformers. That thing had a power cord on it that looked like it came off of my welder.

It's the biggest, clearest, most 3D, gain monster of an amp I've ever heard.
I honestly thought he was bullshitting when he told me what he did to an Ecstacy, until he showed me. 🤣🤣🤣
I miss that crazy bastard.

I have 3 Bogner 4x12's, 2 straight with consecutive serial numbers, 1 slant, and 2 1x12 Bogner Cubes all V30 Loaded. Amps are a 1998 Bogner Ecstasy 101B, 2017 Bogner 20TH Anniversary Ecstasy and a KT 88 20TH Anniversary Shiva on each 4x12 running Wet Dry Wet. The Cubes are for my Synergy Rack rig With Bogner Modules of Course!! It's really amazing the amount of Low End FR you get from those 1x12 Cubes. Both rigs sound Incredible in the room. For recording I use the TWO NOTES Captor X and 4 CAB M+ for each of the cabs And use the Bogner 4x12 ir's. It's nice hearing several Bogners in one video!! Have a great weekend Michael!!

Great job! I think you really captured the differences of the cabinets. It doesn't need to be an exact science to get the idea.

Good stuff and shows quite well the ballpark(s) of the cabs. Me, I've used everything but I love my 4x12.

The 4x12 wins by a landslide. The 1x12 sounded very boxy in comparison. I'd be curious to hear how an open-backed 1x12 would compare. The 2x12 speakers aren't the best match to the Bogner amps, so it got last place for me.

I’ve wanted an Überschall for the last 20 years. I’ve bought all kinds of things other than the amp, so I guess it’s never been THAT important to me. Still want one, but now I feel the need to research the different revisions before getting one. Edit: yes, I realize the Überschall was not used in this video.

I used a Genz Benz G Flex 2x12 for years. Any oversized 2x12 is a great option for a working musician.

Excellent video! Clear differences in all situations but all usable sounds.

I miss using my 4x12 cabs. I still have them, but too big for rehearsal. Plan to use them when the situation calls for them. I use open back seismic cabs. That I hear on stage. One cab has an old Soldano x1200 the other a Celestion from a Marshall. I can't remember the model celestion. The audience hears my stereo Two Notes Torpedo Cab M plus IR DI boxes. Currently 1971 Rolla. They sound awesome.

2x12 open back wins it for me. Alway prefer an open back cab and the g12 speakers are in my opinion one of the best for Marshall type tones.
