First problem, the distributor. Vac advance is supposed to be on passenger side also its not supposed to be hooked up to the other vacuum port since this is a street car not a drag strip car. Besides that your accelerator pump may be toast because there is a lot of alcohol in fuel these days and stock accelerator pumps arnt made for it gotta get special ones. Fix that and set timing at around 8 degrees at warmed up idle. Next gently turn the mixture screws at the front of the carb all the way in till they stop (i say again be very two finger gentle), then turn them out 1.5 turns each. Make sure your fuel pressure is around 4-4.5 psi and no more than that. Hook up a vac gauge to the driver side vac port on the front of the carb (manifold) then warm up to op temp and check your vacuum. should be between 16-18 if you got a stock cam and the timing is right, if its around there start turning the mix screws in 1/4 turn at a time and see if the vacuum reading goes up. Keep doing this till it no longer rises and dips down instead, at that point back off both screws 1/4 turn and call it set. In some cases turning the screws in doesnt raise the idle in this case it wants to be fatter so turn the screws the other way as directed, watching the vac rise till it dips then give the screws 1/4 turn the other way to be set. Side note, if you know things are set fine and were working one day then not, check the fuel pressure and look at the accelerator pump nozzles with a flash light in the top of the carb and see if they are working right.

Problem 1: Incorrectly Installed automatic choke.

The choke (the door on top) is supposed to open straight up either when the engine is heated up or the acceleration lever is pulled. This can cause the engine to run rough in acceleration, can backfire during acceleration, and can even just shut out during acceleration.

Not a problem 2: Timing

If you listen to the engine, although the distributor was installed sideways (looked upon badly, mostly done by mechanics for the growl) it never dieseled when it died, or ran backwards or backfired. So these bafoons saying its your timing is wrong. It may not be stock but it seems timed.

Problem 3: Vacuum leak

There are two major vacuum ports on the carbuertor, and if their leaking could cause problems. Theres the port that the PCV connects to, and then theres the port on the back that conbects to the brake booster. If any of these are leaking without being within the sealed system it can cause the air fuel mixture to be all wonky.

This isnt usually a big problem on nornally timed engines. When its tuned for the growl, your vacuum needs to be sealed as much as humanly possible.

I can also see your vacuum tree on the intake is naked, thing right in font of distributor, behind brake booster port. Plug that thing cuzzo.

Your vacuum advance should be on the passenger side. Your timing is most likely off.

Try this first. Very slowly open the throttle and see what happens. Then take a old water bottle, punch a small hole in the top and put some fuel in it. As you open the throttle squirt a shot of fuel into it if the motor springs up pump is bad. (Note: be prepared for a backfire)

Need to adjust the mixture screws. The right side turn it counterclockwise

Choke is closed. Engine not warmed up? Needs that choke open. I switched to a manual choke l.

Is this a brand new carb? If so check the position of the accelerator pump linkage. Place it in the front hole (closest to the carb) and try it. If this is an old carb i suspect the accelerator pump itself is bad.

Lotta gas but your choke didn't open, electric choke wired in?

What did it turn out to be I'm having the same problem

I have the same issue!! After I replace the fuel pump. When accelerating. My engine dies out?

It’s your timing! The distributor is wayyyy off ! Get #1 up pull distributor and redo your timing! If it won’t set right get a long flat head screwdriver and turn the oil pump until it lines up with bottom of distributor

First. Unhook the vacuum advance all together and cap those ports. Then advance timing a lil. You got it retarded way too much. Then get carb adjusted to where it sounds good and run it. You dont need a vacuum advance unless you just really want it. Then you adjust from there. I set mine by ear. Also, choke is partially closed. But it should open after it has 12v for awhile

No where near enough timing, surprised it even runs

It sounds like it's running on 5 cylinders.

Buy a vacuum gauge so you can see the vacuum probably poor air fuel

Rich! Turn down the fuel pressure to 3psi

Vacuum advance hooked up to wrong port. Have you checked and set the air/fuel mixture screws on the front wit a vacuum gauge hooked to the port you have the advance hooked to
