Lightning in a Flash— Using Cloud and Open Source Capabilities to Improve Data Access and Analysis

Over the past year, NASA's Global Hydrometeorology Resource Center Distributed Active Archive Center (GHRC DAAC) was tasked with developing a minimum viable product (MVP) tool to improve visualization and data analysis of GHRC’s lightning data holdings. The resulting tool, the Lightning Dashboard, demonstrates the evolving role of the DAACs to become facilitators of data and not just curators. The lightning dashboard MVP leverages GHRC’s lightning expertise, cloud capabilities, and focus on open science.

This presentation discusses the importance of lightning data at GHRC, provides a demonstration of the Lightning Dashboard’s capabilities, and discusses the next capabilities that will be implemented with this project.
