His family sent him to the Benedictines not because they were willing his good but their good so one day when he became an abbot they would benefit. But then at eatly age he switched to the newly formed mendicant group called the Ordee of Preacher. And this greatly shows his desire for not only poverty of the spirit but material poverty. It was said that during his formation, an Angel appeared to him and grided him with the sword of chastity. So here's a monk-priest who never commited any sexual venial and mortal sin. This is why he had angelic kinda mind and purity of heart which perceived Being with all its depth.

As an ex-catholic Baha'i I must say that I always LOVED Aquinas' philsophy. The main reason I decided to leave Christianity is because christians no longer primarily act with reason.

a smart guy in a very backward era..he was using ancient religious folklore for his building blocks..so he was at a disadvantage from the set go..amen

Actually that’s not true his parents didn’t want him to be in the religious order so
They locked him in their private house in hopes he wouldn’t.. then with his brothers help ordered a prostitute to come into his bedroom to sway him from the religious order.. facts are important 😊
