Jokes about flying cars and jetpacks are a common thing in America and these jokes find their origin in the 1962-animated sitcom The Jetsons. The show aired from September 23, 1962, to September 22, 1963, and was never renewed for a second season. Even then, The Jetsons played a crucial role in defining the way Americans think of the future as well as their expectations of technology. It wouldn't be wrong to say that The Jetsons is one of the most important and defining pieces of 21st-century futurism.

The Jetsons narrates the story of an upper-middle-class family residing in Orbit City. George Jetson is a Digital Index Operator and his wife, Jane, is a homemaker. The couple lives in their Skypad apartment with their teenage daughter Judy and son Elroy. The family has a dog named Astra and a robot maid named Rosie. The show did not only deliver relevant humor but also became popular for its imaginative space-age living. It's easy to fall in love with a world where domestic tasks are performed by robots, ozone-scrapping homes groom and dress their inhabitants, and people use spaceships to commute. The Jetsons raised America's hopes for the future.

At the time it first appeared on TV screens, many critics were quick to dismiss The Jetsons as just another cartoon. However, over the years, the show has had a profound impact on the way we think of the future. Though the show ran for a single season, its influence has been immense. After its premiere run, the show continued on ABC, CBS, and NBC for years. Between 1985 and 1987, many new episodes were produced for syndication. Unfortunately, in 1989, George O' Hanlon, who served as the voice of George Jetson on the show, passed away, and thereafter, no new shows were produced. The series finale came in 1990, in the form of a film titled Jetsons: The Movie. 27 years later, a direct-to-video animated movie titled Jetsons & WWE: Robo-WrestleMania! released and witnessed mediocre success.

The Jetsons may not be as funny as The Flinstones, but they provided good humor and elicited many laughs. While The Flintstones explored an era that was already well known and understood, The Jetsons forayed into unknown territory and used creative imagination to create a world that was unseen and unknown. Great animation, innovative ideas, and an absolutely fantastic theme make this show memorable in every way. In this video, we go into the future with The Jetsons and tell you ten interesting facts you didn't know about the show. Make sure to subscribe to Facts Verse!

Great bunch of facts! I loved the Jetsons. Our family saw it in color in Los Angeles when it first came out. My little sister used to cry at the end of the episodes, when George was caught on the dog walker, yelling for Jane to “stop this crazy thing!”. You see, that was our dad, George O’Hanlon.
Very much enjoyed reading everyone’s comments. Dad would have loved them, too.
George O’Hanlon, Jr.

The big thing that this video fails to mention is that in fact there was a Jetsons movie released in 1990. It brought in about $20.3 million, five dollars of that being my money.

What I always wondered was “If they do everything in the sky, what’s on the ground?”

The part where Jane takes George’s wallet instead of the bill he hands her is hilarious

It’s interesting you mention The Jetsons being cancelled due to being a color cartoon in a black and white world. When I was growing up, all we had were black and white TVs. The show I watched most was The Flintstones. I still remember the day I finally saw it in color in the eighties. It blew me away!

Next to the Flintstones my sister and I still love the Jetsons in fact we even had a color TV when we lived in Chicago so it made the show so much better compared to what was on in black and white

I loved the Jetsons as a child and would love to see not only a movie, but an updated animated series. This show was so before it's time! Would need to have writers that are imaginative and very up on all futuristic ideas. Would still need to be fun and quirky!

"JETSON, FIRED!" always cracks me up. Mr. Spacely is so comical. Same goes for the rest of these great characters.

You forgot the Jane Jetson face mask that she puts on to look presentable when on a video call. Today Zoom has an editing feature that lets you tweak your appearance so that your skin looks smoother and younger and you look more radiant when you're on a Zoom video call.

I used to love watching the Jetsons. It is one of my favourite cartoons of all time. I can still remember what all their voices sounded like to this day. Elroy had a very distinct voice.
There was something so great about the sounds, the music & that futuristic but wholesome feeling.
One of the best cartons for sure. You made me feel very nostalgic.
