Gotta believe that part of the reason Roger is still going strong at his age is his remarkable, body-friendly technique. No jerkiness or awkward motions -- just fluidity.

Beautiful, elegant, efficient and effortless serve. It took me 10 years to get my serve to look like his and many, many revisions and tweaks here and there. I examined everything, every little movement, from the way he stands and starts the serve with his left leg bent, his weight on the left foot, his body bent at the hip, his right foot raised and toes touching the ground. When he starts his swing back, he keeps his shoulders bent at the hip and doesn't raise them, he simply brings his right foot down, keeping his head steady and in the direction of his opponent, and then raises his left arm and right arm together. His head remains in the direction of his opponent until the right arm is almost vertical and the ball has reached its apex. Here's the big secret that no one seems to know when he attacks the ball and makes contact with it. When he jumps at the ball, he does something with the right elbow. What is it? I know what he does. I just want to see if anybody else knows.

I no longer do this method of serving ...😛😁 . It’s funny and strange. As I’m older, my service has become less complicated, less movement but more efficient and surprisingly more powerful. I simply position my body (bent at the waist minus 15-20 degrees and racquet at my side pointed in the same direction as my body, toss the ball. When the left hand is lined up with my racquet, the racquet goes up and up at the same tempo as the left arm, the whole body is shifted and I’m looking up at the ball and strike. No jumping just a drive through the ball finish on my left legend racquet in front. Finally!! I can honestly say THIS IS MY SERVE... !!! It’s not a copy. It’s so simple I wonder why I never saw it before.

I’m now back to this elegant serving motion! 🤣😝😝

Damn, Roger has such a beautiful style of play. It's worth taking a moment to see it. I forget about the game watching him play, he's like the Baryshnikov of tennis.

This is the best ever video showing Federer's serve techniques.
Thanks a lot.

The hardest part for me is doing all of that, jumping so high off the ground for the serve, and then landing exactly on or slightly inside the baseline on the left foot, with the right foot kicking out behind the same way every single time, so he's balanced and ready to take the split step back for the return if needed

First true platform server was the brilliant John McEnroe, an elegant serve for his era. Ivan Lendl & Boris Becker had truly great service motions in the 80s with Becker's style being more muscular while Lendl's was the cleanest and most effective model in his era... then came Pete Sampras, and the "trophy" was born... ALL servers since then have modeled their serve after Sampras' platform beauty including Federer whom CLEARLY imitates the Sampras platform model. Federer has sought to vainly seek style to all of his strokes & motion (and with modern racquets doing EVERYTHING without much physical exertion by players today its SO MUCH easier to hit freely than it ever was before), but Sampras platform delivered not only beauty but intimidation and technical virtuosity that Federer's service only occasionally reaches.

I would just like to know, who are the 7 people that don't like this video. Please explain to me what it is that you don't like. Its as close to perfection as possible. Thank you Florian for posting this great video.

Just noticed how professionals get power on their second serves - it's all about being mindful of keeping the racket head facing slightly towards the back of the court as well as the wrist lag to generate the upward racket face motion. This allows forward pronation and sideways pronation of the wrist at the same time. e.g. at 1:31. This is what really allows the racket to swing forward into the court while also getting the top spin!

If you want to teach anyone on the planet a perfect service motion without any compensations or cramping muscle activity, this is the peRFect example.

Nobody has a better serve than Federer. Some can hit harder because they are over 7 feet tall, and others because they have bodybuilder arms, but nobody is as skilled as Federer

Hello Online Tennis Instruction. Thank you for the video, I found it yesterday and this morning, I've tried to practice my serve with the fundamental bases of the video. And I've increased my technic a lot ! Friendly.
(Sorry for my English, I'm French)

The complexity of the serve it’s such that I’m surprised anyone is good at this action. So many things to get right so it to come off.

I'm very sceptical on every shot people make. But here... it's a pure symphony, every little move is for the reason. Great serve

Federer's tennis mechanics are efficient and fluid. His serve is high-tech in many areas. There is a decided arc at the top of his serve toss (retard downward ball movement - Braden).

Hi Florian, firstly your 'Ultimate Serve" fix free video series have been an invaluable learning resource for me- especially your supplementary drills that intentionally isolate the legs in generating power.now oddly enough, I have been having most success in generating 1. power and 2. accuracy in directing intended spot when I do the drill where both my feet face the baseline and I toss across the body to the right and focus on swinging right to left over my head.

I like how he ticks his arm in when he serves to put all the power on the ball
