This is my take on "A Way of Life" from The Last Samurai.
As an emerging film composer, I found it extremely beneficial (if not essential) to study the greats and reproduce some of their work. For my part, Hans Zimmer is one of them.
His composition has an incredible sense of nuances and dynamics, and was definitely both a challenge and a pleasure to work on.

When this movie came out all I heard was negative things painting it as being about “a white savior movie going to a foreign land and becoming better than all of them”. That couldn’t be further from the truth though. It’s a very poignant, introspective movie about staying true to your roots and heritage as the world moves on. Honor in defeat and honor in adherence.
